Remi keeps me up at night -.-
Remi is a sweet, calm and loving hamster. He lives on my window ledge and watches the ocean at night ^.^ It's adorable really but when I lay down and sleep that's when it hits me. HIS WEE IS THE MOST REVOLTING THING I'VE EVER SMELLED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. It's my first time with a male hamster and I've read that's normal for them haha damn my sister has it easy with Cotton in her room. Remi loves to crave attention as well cage biting and all... aiya
How can I tone down the pee smell? Honestly I spray my pillow with perfume because even when I turn away from him I smell it
Remi has his own Instagram account! @remithehamster

Have you checked his vent? Take a look at his rear end and see if its wet and stinky, just to be safe.
Its hard to give certain advice over a forum. Is the hamster healthy enough? Eating and drinking well, poo looks OK?
If its not wet tail or any little infection making the pee smell worse and the hamster is healthy then there are a few things you can do.
How much substrate do you use/how deep is it? A thick layer helps to absorb the pee and smell, buying a little scoop to spot clean the peed on substrate also helps. You can buy non toxic scented stuff to put in the corner they pee in so when it gets wet is becomes fragnant, in a nice way, personally I don't use it.
You can also potty train your hamster to use a toilet, empty that daily

Re: Remi keeps me up at night -.-
Is he drinking enough water? make sure his water bottle is working properly each day by tapping the spout to see if water comes out easily. You can give a small slice of cucumber maybe twice a week so help with dehydration ( too many watery veggies can cause diarrhea though, so don't overdo it )What type of bedding / substrate do you use ?
I highly recommend Carefresh if you can get it. You can order it online I'm sure. For my hamster, ever since I built him a big , roomy cardboard house to put in the corner of the tank he started peeing in, he will only use that area in the house to go pee now. I put a thick layer of Carefresh bedding in the back corner of the house for him to pee on. (I've used the Carefresh Complete with Baking Soda, it's great for stinky pee smells, and right now I'm using the Carefresh Premium ultra soft bedding, it works with odors just as well, and is softer.)
I remove the bedding he urinates on every other day. I also would make sure he's not peeing on his wheel, or any other plastic items. That can make you much more able to smell his urine.
If he has peed on anything plastic, I recommend washing the item or items in cold water with a
gentle dishwashing liquid and rinse well and dry.
If you use hot water, the urine odor could become embedded in the item and it will remain stinky.
If you want to use hot water for sanitizing purposes, wash thoroughly in cold first to remove all the urine,
then there will be nothing for the hot water to embed into the plastic.
I learned this lesson the hard way when I was 16 and used hot water to wash my first hamster's plastic tubes and wheel.
Hamster pee generally just does smell awful, I'm on my third syrian hamster , i haven't had one in many years, but decided I really wanted to get one.

Lucky for me, he pees in one spot only... Thanks for the tip about the cold and hot water! I didn't know that. Thanks for the advice

Re: Remi keeps me up at night -.-
you're welcome!
Sadly Toby has been peeing in his new big Silent Spinner Wheel.
It's frustrating, it's a really nice, expensive wheel, and I wish he's stop
peeing in it lol. I've just been wiping it out with baby wipes, then a wet cloth, then
drying it out so I don't have to take it all apart. It still smells lightly of pee,
so I'm hoping that will get him to stop peeing in it.
I'm thinking it's not that he's scent marking it with pee, he just runs for hours at a time, resting every few minutes, and probably is just too lazy to walk 8 inches away to pee in his toilet area, ha ha.
