Re: Careless Hamster Owner>:(
Wow that's so stupid. I guess the best you can do is look after him when you're there. I'd leave a lot of extra food in his cage when you leave, just so be gets more.

Re: Careless Hamster Owner>:(
This is a hard one to solve. I have two Nephews in Law who are said by their widower Father to be autistic(One is faking but gets away with it). The younger one which is the more dependent on others will get focused on one subject and learn all he can possibly learn about that subject. If possible try to get the young man with you while reading HC and read HC out loud to him. Let him see the many cages on the cage threads and just verbally say Look wouldn't your hamster look nice in that cage? Oh wow look at that neat Toy we can build for your hamster(state the Hamsters name if it has one).
Buy some Lolli sticks and Elmers glue(safe for Hamster safe for him to use) and get him interested in building a House or bridge for his Hamster. Let him do as much of the building of the toy as is possible for his focusing and let HIM show it off to his Mom. Get your SO involved with the toy making too as MIL will have no chance to say YOUR doing it and not the whole family. Collect as many paper tubes as is possible for even more neat toys for Hammy. By the time all the new toys are made and they don't fit in the small Walmart cage, THEN offer to help THEM build a neat new cage from a Bin from Walmarts. Of course YOU will be the one buying all the supplies for this new bin but once the Boy gets focused on Building something he'll begin to demand his Mom to help and she will not have a chance to say no as parents of Autistic children usually bend over backwards to make their Autistic child happy.

Re: Careless Hamster Owner>:(
ive tried that, dont worry. he doesnt care about him what so ever. Most kids would love to do crafts like that, but he doesnt. They also put him in a dark room alone for 3 days out of the week when their grandmother comes over too, because shes scared of him.. so pathetic.. hes not a bear! they literally do everything wrong with him, and just laugh when i try to say something about it.. its so ridiculous.. as im replying im thinking of more things they do and it just infuriates me.

Re: Careless Hamster Owner>:(
Why do they have him? Why do they want to keep him? Sounds like he was bought as a toy which is now discarded. What would they do if he was gone/died/got eaten by the dog or cat? Would they replace him?
Can you line up someone who would give him a home or a rescue centre & sneak him away & make out whilst you were playing with him he went under a cupboard or something & vanished. Can you leave your ham with someone else for a couple of weeks & sneak this poor little guy out in your cage which you arrive with empty?
It is so awful the way some people treat animals, especially when someone caring has to witness them. I am really wondering what your girlfriend & you have in common if she is so dismissive of your concerns? How does she act with your own hammy?

Re: Careless Hamster Owner>:(
Maybe you could say the cat got him and rehome him to a better home, so they won't notice
