Default My hamster has a recall!!

A few minutes ago I had a major panic because treacle had escaped. She lives in an Imac fantasy and finaly figured out how to untwist the pink disks at the top. In panic I called out her name in a harsh-ish tone as its what I do if my dog has run off. She has gotten out before and came back when I called her but I took it as sheer luck. This time when I called her I heard a small chirp and she appeared from under my desk. I scooped her up and she looked at me as if to say "what did I do wrong, I'm innocent". I think I have a little genius. Are there any other hamsters out there that have a recall?

And I have taped the disks at the top of the cage to be safe!!

not so much a recall..but when pikachu does something silly like tries to climb out of the edge of his cage lid while I clean his cage out or when he's making a run for the crease down the back of sofa I go "noo..where do you think you're going?" and he sits there as if to give it a second thought..then moves off somewhere else or he'll stay and come back to me.

That's so cute, you are lucky she came back, especially with a dog in the house! I want to teach Jasper that now it would probably be quite useful actually, we got two large dogs and 2 cats in the house, maybe I should do it for his own safety! LOL.

It's possibly more the tone of my voice more than anything else.....Lucky me hehe I sat and watched treacle last night go up to one of the pink disks and hook her paws in the holes and try to open it....I had taped the disks so she stuggled to move it.

Aww what a clever girl she is I always liked to think Tinker knew his name and would seem to head my way if I called his name.

Tinker only escaped once but actually managed to find his way to our bedroom, climb up on the bed and woke us up He kind of then sat there as if to say, look how clever I am, now shall we play?

Quite a few of mine come when they are called. I think they do get to know their names and love their owners and it can be very useful as you have discovered.
I believe hamsters get very attached to their owners, mine follow me around when they are in their balls too.
