Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
I made another post before about Wicket maybe having some issues with discharge. I wrote it off as "arousal". I gently squeezed it last night and it was just fluid, but tonight he's swollen in the area.
Here is a link so anyone who doesn't want to see the photo, doesn't have to. Not even sure you can tell in the photo. I am thinking a plug, but don't actually see one, so if it is, it would be deeper. Advice on what to do would be appreciated, thanks! I am concerned about how long he can go like that if it is indeed a plug. I know they can die from it if blocked.

Re: Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
Hi, I cant see much on the pic, but if it is swelling up, I think a trip to the vets is needed to make sure all is ok and nothing serious.
Years ago, we had a long haired guinea pig that had the same symptoms. There was a thick puss there and we cleaned him, arranged an appointment at the vets and he died 10 mins later while my wife was cuddling him on her lap. We burried him and never knew what caused it.
A vets visit is needed before it gets really bad.

Re: Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
The swelling would alarm me. For sure.
He definitely doesn't look quite right there.
As Ian said and as I'm sure you already know. A vet trip is in order to figure it out x
I'll keep my fingers crossed for little Wicket

Re: Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
Thanks. I was just wondering if I could do anything in the meantime to help him out. The redness has gone down this morning. I'm going to try another picture Monday morning and see if the vet could look at it before taking him in. He's 2, so I probably wouldn't do anything surgical, but antibiotics yes. Today I'm going to see if he's peed. I cleaned out his igloo last night and replaced it with fresh bedding.

Re: Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
I hope it is nothing serious for you.
I got my robo out the other day and he had a yellow 'blob' on the end of his 'vent' but when i got him out to examine his nose, he didnt. I think it was a defensive wee or something. It was only there once, It was the first time I picked him up.
I have my fingers crossed for you too.

Glad it was a false alarm for your Robo Ian. Sorry about your Guinea Pig as well. I'm hoping it's nothing. He may even be fine now and just had some irritation (hoping).

Re: Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
Hi Esmy. If Wicket has a penile plug it needs to be seen by a vet. Check this link out. About 3 or 4 medical issues down the list is the info on penile plugs. I hope this helps. Poor Wicket has to be uncomfortable.

I hope it is a false alarm for you too. The link DrK has put is a good help. i have just read it, and it seems easy to do, but if it is hard to do, then a vet will be the answer. Hope all is good.

Re: Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
Thanks DrK. I'm less convinced he has one now, as I don't see anything. The redness has gone down but he hasn't peed today that I could tell. He looks better in that area so I'm going to keep checking for pee. Nothing I can do today unless I pay hundreds of dollars for an ER visit. He's been drinking and playing. I read that article yesterday, which is why I lightly squeezed and it was just fluid that came out. Thanks though!

Re: Help please! Male discharge/ plug?
Just a quick update on Wicket- he's doing better. He has peed and I don't see any redness or swelling anymore. I will continue to monitor him and make a vet appt if anything changes. Glad the weekdays start soon!
