Well, with the death of our old girl
Tinkerbell at the weekend my beloved has been moping a little ..... yesterday he suggested going to our local Rspca to see if there were any Syrian hamsters we could rehome. I said that I didn't think there would be but I knew there were some Russian Dwarf hamsters that had been there for a while and he said we'd go and have a look anyway.
So we took a spare Gabber Rex cage fully furnished to show them and a carrier and went along. There weren't any Syrians but there were some Russian Dwarf's. When we were looking at a trio of hamsters in a Gabber Rex an assistant saw us and mentioned that they'd been at the Rspca for a long time - some months she said - but that they'd been there longer than any of the other inhabitants.
I then realised that I recognised the names on the side..... I am 95% certain that these hamsters were the ones I saw when I adopted three rats (the small animals are all in a room together). That was about 11 months ago.
Well that did it. We showed them our cage and got the go-ahead but were warned that they nipped and needed socialising. We took them home and put them in the Zoozone 2 we had empty as there are three of them we felt they needed the extra space!
They are lovely little things - at least two of them will come to you via a tube with no problem. One of them is a bit nippy but I'm not bothered - they are great fun to watch and it's great to know that they actually have a real home now. They won't 'replace' Tinks' of course...... but it's good to see her cage in use again.
They were called Bam Bam, Pebbles and Squeak but we will rename them I think at some point. They are litter mates and as they've been together this long I don't imagine having any problems with them falling out. I think they're Campbells?? :P
Here they are:
Their Zoozone 2 (it's a bit cobbled together at the moment - I'll be buying them some more bits and bobs and a couple of Silent Spinner wheels though they do have a Wodent Wheel you can't see as it's attached to the lid!)
They are incredibly active and very entertaining to watch! They seem to have settled in to their new home straight away. I'm very pleased we got them!
