Which do you prefer?
Okay so I have ALWAYS owned winter whites! I was considering branching out to a Syrian and I wanted to know what your favorite hamster is? What hamster do you recommend? I'm not a first time owner obviously, but if you recommend a Syrian is there any differences in care? Thanks

Re: Which do you prefer?
I prefer Campbell's, but I love my Syrians too. They're not that much different, except they need bigger stuff and they're solitary.
Really strange you've only had WW since they're so rare..pure WW or Hybrid?

I got them from petsmart my first one was pure but the one I own now is a pearl that I think is a hybrid because of all his health problems but he doesn't look like a hybrid (I spent all day looking at pictures, omg I have no life )

Re: Which do you prefer?
Well, after having only the "russian" type (most likely hybrids) as a double figured child + and then, moving onto Syrians as an adult, I have to say, I prefer Syrians. I find they are (usually) more willing to be social with the human. Although, that being said I did have some really sweet Russians that were more than happy for human contact. But, still Syrians would have to get my vote. I am currently wondering myself whether to go back to owning one of the dwarf species, but, my heart still lies with Syrians, and I know if I went into a pet store and there was another Syrian ham that stole my heart, I'd have to bring him home. However I still have my reservations about the dwarfs despite having seen some REALLY lovely ones that I fell in love with.
I think I'm just a Syrian kind of person at heart I prefer how they're bigger in your hand. Dwarfs are so tiny and often skittish. but they are very very cute ^_^

Re: Which do you prefer?
I had one "Russian" amongst a series of Syrians & never got the same level of interaction from him. Now I decided to have another ham after almost a ten year gap I did not consider anything other than a Syrian - just prefer more of a handful I reckon.

Re: Which do you prefer?
I have Syrians and a Chinese Hamster (Beanie). Beanie is very shy. My Syrians are easy to handle but only one likes my attention really. I would love a pair of dwarfs (or one) someday!

Re: Which do you prefer?
I only have experience with Syrians, one of them is very socialable and loves to handled and let out of his cage, he will happily climb all over me. The other is his brother however I got him at 13 weeks and still getting used to his sorroundings.
I would like a pair of dwarves in the future, but for now I have "heard" these are more fast so I think I'd be scared of them escaping aha!

Re: Which do you prefer?
It really just depends on a hamsters personality! My syrian boys never have really seemed to enjoy hanging out with me, but Nougat (RIP) was a hybrid ww from petco, and was the sweetest thing. We had cuddles for hours at a time, with water breaks of course, and would do a little squeek when I came to here cage. I would suggest handling them at petsmart, to really see their difference

Re: Which do you prefer?
I prefer Syrians over Roborovskis. I do love all my hamsters, but it's so difficult for me to tame my boys. Only progress I've had so far is Sherlock snatching a mealworm from me. That was months ago
I'd love a pair of hybrids though.

Re: Which do you prefer?
I started with a Winter White & dwarves in general will always be my favourites. But I adore my Syrians too. I never have more than two at a time though. Hobbes who recently passed was the tamest Campbells I've ever had he loved cuddles & would quite happily fall asleep as I stroked him. My new pair Flora & Fauna I think are going to be just like him. At the end of the day I think it just depends on the hamster, not what type they are.
