Default I'm getting a gorgeous rescue hammy tomorrow, yippee!

Hello all

Feel very guilty as I haven't posted very much since joining. I will be making a much more determined effort now to post more often!

Some of you may remember that I had a lovely squishy silver grey syrian boy called Humbug, I recently posted to say he was poorly and had seemed to 'get old' overnight. Sadly he passed away on 20th July, aged almost 2 1/2 years. I've just tried to post a memorial but photobucket isn't working so can't post a pic of him, will try again a bit later.

Anyway we had thought that after he passed away we would have a break from hammies for a while, as we already have 5 lady ratties that keep us quite busy. However we are all missing Humbug terribly so I thought I'd put some feelers out today to see if I could either find a breeder or a rescue hammy from somewhere. I'm not too keen on buying from petshops (both for health reasons and cos I know where their hammies come from ). We did once have a lovely hamster from PAH though who lived 3 1/2 years and was a lovely boy.

However, I emailed a friend who I knew had rescued a hammy from a pupil at her school (mother couldn't touch it and children' had 'gone off it' ) and although I didn't think she would want to part with it, I hadn't spoken to her in a while and know she already has a whole menagerie of other fuzzies. She emailed back and said that she was thinking of starting to look for a new home for the hammy (Bertie!) and she would love for him to come and live with us (we are only down the road too so she can visit whenever she likes ). He is coming in his Hamster Heaven too!

Humbug lived in a tank style cage (think it was called a Ferplast Galaxy) but it was a bit cracked and I was considering a bigger one for my next hammy, I'm soooooo excited!

I need some help though - I haven't seen Bertie for a few months and can't quite remember his colouring, I remember he has white spectacles and is a browny gingery colour (but more brown than ginger) and my friend says she thinks he has had a summer moult and is more velvety looking now. I'm thinking sable but he's not as black as some of the photos I've seen on here. Can anyone help out just on my description?

Does anyone have any photos of similar coloured hamsters, just to keep me going until he arrives tomorrow morning, pretty please!

Thank you! I'll post pics of him as soon as he arrives and has settled in!

Humbug would be pleased that another little one is getting to have to wonderful life he had. Looking forward to seeing the new boy and hearing all about him. he sounds like a sable as they go quite brown relatively young or maybe a mink as ami-j suggested.
