Default Convincing my mum

Hey guys.
I have seen the cuuuuutest long haired syrian hammy in pets at home and I am desperate to make it mine. I have wanted a long haired hammy for so long.
I already have two hamsters and think I could easily take care of one more. I have spare cages, spare toys, plenty of food etc.
My mum says two hamsters is enough but I know I can care for another one.
My dad just goes with whatever really so he's no problem.
How can I convince her to let me get this lovely ham?
Advice pleeeeeeeeeease

It`s so easy to fall for a hammy so I don`t blame you for that! But....and here is the main thing. Vet bills. Who would be responsible for those if any of the hamsters required Baytril or other treatments? Cost of transport there and back, unless your parents already have a car. The cages, accessories and food and quality time are necessities, but so too is funding for emergencies. Some parents are willing to allow any amount of pets, but not so much when the animal becomes poorly or injured and they suddenly see pound signs rather than the suffering. So I would be questioning this before adding to your numbers, just to be sure. Unless of course you pay for these yourself?

Just mentioning this in case it was something that might not be in the calculations, but if it is, then a third hamster shouldn`t be a problem, so hope you can get him. x

Yes, money is a big thing to consider. Do you have a birthday coming up? It doesn't help with future expenses, but it may get the hamster in the door.

I have seen too many times a hamster being brought into the family for younger family member and when it gets sick its "ooh we can't afford the vet bill" . You posted recently about Pumpkin chipping a tooth and your parents wouldn't take her to a vet if needed. Please consider this before bringing another hammie home. As the hamster gets old vet trips may be unavoidable. Have a chat with your parents and can are they willing to pay for vet if the hamster gets sick.

Pumpkin never chipped her tooth? Might be confusing me with someone else.

As I am over 18, my parents expect me to pay for things myself.
My birthday is in 2/3 weeks actually.
Travel isn't a problem, my vets is 2 minutes down the road and i've started a "vet fund" which I have been putting money in to weekly.
I have considered all the facts and I know it costs to keep hammies and I appreciate that you're all considering that but I think I can care for another.
Also my nan usually gives me about £50 for my birthday which I plan on putting straight in the vet fund.
I'm still thinking about getting it myself but I do really want another.

I suppose if you just have a chat with your mum and point out how well you've managed the responsibility for the other two and taken good care of them. That she doesn't have to have anything to do with them, it's you cleaning them and paying for them etc... Maybe rearrange whatever room the hammie would be in to show her the space where they new guy would go?

And make her a cup of tea. Mums love tea.
