Smile Bonding with Pumpkin

Hi guys, happy story to tell today.
So when I got Pumpkin she took to me and trusted me really quickly and she was out the cage and in my hands in no time, she is also from a pet shop and I got her young. Also at playtime she likes to go in her ball.
When I first got Scrub, she was an unhealthy, uncared for, out of shape hamster from a nasty home where the owners didn't take care of her and it took her a long time to take to me and trust me. Scrub doesn't go in her ball at playtime anymore because after about 30 seconds she bites out of it, so she is with me the whole time.
Now I do love little Pumpkin with all my heart but I always felt like the bond between Scrub and I was stronger. I think it was because she was my first ever hamster, I saved Scrub from the horrid family and nursed her back to health and the bonding process of introducing myself to her took a long time and when she finally did take to me I was so relieved and happy whereas with Pumpkin, she's from a pet shop and the bonding process was very fast.
A couple days ago, it was very late (around 2am) and I got up to get a drink and I noticed Pumpkin was up, so I got her out and lay on my bed while she ran around and there were moments were she would stop and I'd stroke her and it was really nice, we had a proper bonding session and I feel like we've bonded much more which makes me very happy I feel so much closer with Pumpkin now.
I might sound like a loony but hey! I'm happy.

That's great! The bonding process is what brings hammies closer to their owners more than anything else!

yes it takes a while to develop a true bond - while I liked our Fuzzy from the moment we got him home I did not feel the same for him than for my birds which I handfed when they were babies - we have him a week now and after spending time and getting to know him that special bond starts to develop between him and our family. The first few days he was just set to explore and never sat still ( after all what toddler ever does) but yesterday we had a moment where he just settled in my hand and stayed there with half closed eyes for a few minutes- he will now sit on the kids hands while he eats and hides on our lap when he gets scared ...

Your two hammies are adorable - love the color !!!

Aw, it's so lovely to have those moments where you realise they trust you.
Thank you. When I got Pumpkin my friend was asking why I didn't choose another colour (because the colour is similar to Scrub) and I said because she's such a lovely colour
They both have lovely big ears as well

It took me quite a while I have to admit to bond with my boy Shadow. I'd Lott had my previous hamster PTS and still missed him dearly. I decided to get Shadow near enough straight away to keep me focused on something positive. It took a good few months for us to bond. It was worth it though.
