Squeeking?
For a while now Scrub has been squeeking and recently Pumpkin has started too.
Its a very short squeek which usually happens when they're sleeping but they also do it when they're out playing.
I never thought anything of it because they seem happy and content when they're doing it and they are both healthy. I just wanted to know what it means. It's like a click but a squeek.
Like I say they are both perfectly happy when they are squeeking but I'm just wondering if it means anything.

Re: Squeeking?
Maybe they are just very vocal?
If it happens after they have been out for playtime a while then maybe put them back as they may be getting tired.
Also, if they share the same play area, maybe it is that they can smell each other more then and they aren't that happy?
If it's every few days...then it may just be them on heat.
If they are both healthy and happy though I see no problem, nothing to worry about!

Re: Squeeking?
A few of my syrians squeak, I used to be concerned but I asked the vet when I was there getting hops nails clipped and she said exactly what SinNyz said, some are just vocal.

I said that the other day, I think they're just vocal. They don't usually seem tired because they'll still be running about and sometimes it's after i've just given them a treat.
And no, I get them out seperately.
It is every few days though so that may be the case.

Re: Squeeking?
My hybrid makes wee chirps or squeaks quite frequently. I was really worried about when I first noticed but after two vet trips and antibiotics, I'm now sure he's just talking to me.
It's usually if he's frustrated. So if he tries to run somewhere I don't want him to go and I stop him, or if he's trying to get into his food tubs and I move them away, I get a wee series of squeaks. Only a seconds worth, but I swear it sounds like he's saying 'what do you think you're doing'! Is definitely not fear or aggression, as his manner is always normal when it happens, but I'm sure I've irritated him slightly when I hear it.

When I Got Harry, My Syrian. I Had Never Heard Such A Sound. He Was Like A Radio.
Hamsters usually make noises, when they are frustrated or scared

Thats not always the case, we've heard scared ham screeching, we've heard angry clicking, we've heard angry squeaking... But we've also heard sleepy squeaking, curious clicking and we reguarly hear happy clicking
Some hams are just vocal - Geigers even named for being vocal, whenever she's out she's usually clicking away contentedly and she does an amazing geiger counter impression sometimes
