I think I've finally found my way into little Ivy's heart.
She no longer comes running at me to do a flying ninja bite move but instead wakes when I walk in the room no matter what time of the day to greet me. She comes over to the bars and climbs them until I open her hamster heaven.
She's still jumpy when I pick her up and handle her so i have to use a little tub for her to climb into in order to take her out of her cage but she's made so much progress I never thought I'd even get this far. She's a rescue ham with I guess a bad start.
And what could be making her love me so much......... live crickets and mealworms. I've never given any of my hams live food before but as I have a bearded dragon I thought I'd try on a whim to see if she might like them? They went down really well and now she comes running to me rather than hiding or attacking.
Now the only thing I'm unsure of is how many a Syrian can have in a week. I don't want to give her too many and it cause harm as I read somewhere about how it can cause calcium problems.
Does anyone know how many is safe? And whether my robo Nova can have some as well?
If you give her 2-3 a day it shouldn't hurt her. My hammies like them too. I'd slow it down once she's more tame, but for your taming purposes, I'd go with what she loves. Glad she's doing so nicely.
I am not sure how many she can have a week, but I just wanted to say I read your previous post and I am so happy she has made such progress. You must be very pleased
