Question Been pondering about something....

So, I have a spare cage, and of course, feel the need to fill it with a ham.

If the weather permits, I might be going to Petsmart this Saturday to help out with an adoption event there, and I will be eying the hams heavily. This particular store is a male only store, there are female only stores too, as this is a measure that the store implements to try and stop accidental pregnancies in any given store.

Now, the species of hamster I am thinking about getting is a Syrian. So, I'd be bringing home a male Syrian. I already have a female Syrian, a banded cream named Paisley.

Now, the fear I have is that if I bring home a male Syrian, that somehow, he'd escape and wind up getting Paisley pregnant. Or something might else might happen with the same results.

I guess I am paranoid about these sorts of things.

What would you do?

Well, if your hams aren't in cages they can easily escape then the chances that both of them will get out at the same time are pretty slim, so I'd say go for it!

One thing you might want to think about is whether they'd be kept in the same room. When I put Nancy in the same room as my boys, Hamish went bonkers! For a week he was racing around the cage trying to get out. He started bar chewing, scent marking everything and basically being a bit crazy. I moved Nancy into a different room and within a couple of days he'd calmed down again. He still licks my hands if I've held Nancy first even if I've washed them.

Sherlock isn't really bothered either way

How often has your current hamster escaped?
