Re: What have I done?!
Hi I'm so glad thats its a happy ending for little Maggie and I'm such when you put her in her new home she will be rubbing her little paws with glee. Although I am quite horrified that the obvious not rights have another hamster and I'm presuming and hoping that the little girl or boy has better living conditions but how can anyone treat one pet differently from the other, the mind boggles. Please BrainGirl keep us updated on little Maggies progress.

Re: What have I done?!
Aww I am so glad you managed to get her, and rescue her. Well done and she now has a loving home, and will be much better cared for.
I am sure she will settle in soon and sounds like you have the cage sorted out for her when she does.
Keep us updated on progress and pics when she is a little more settled.
Once again, well done

Re: What have I done?!
I decided to move her into the new place straightaway. I figure both my current home and the new one are going to be in upheaval during the move I might as well cut down her stress by not asking her to get used to 2 different new places in quick succession. I did stop at my place to get a bit of Carefresh Natural that I happened to have and I gave her several piles of it so she could build a nest. She didn't even have enough shavings for that She didn't come out much on the drive and I can't blame her, but...she did seem very interested in the new bedding and when I poked a few squares of loo paper through the bars after arrival she acted like it was the greatest thing she'd ever seen!
It might sound awful (it's short-term!) but I put her on the top shelf of the closet in what is to be my bedroom. It's small and enclosed but she can see the window if she tries, plus it's well out of the way of all the moving excitement. I thought it best anyway. She seemed a little more stressed about everything than Bonnie was, should I give her any supplements or wet tail drops as preventative?

Re: What have I done?!
Oh, almost forgot! She came with a bag of treats, but they're meant for rats. They're Living World Drops, honey flavour, for rats. Are they ok for hamsters? Otherwise they'll just go to the animal rescue!

Re: What have I done?!
Well, she was a bit skittish for the first 24 hours or so but she seemed a lot calmer and more curious about her surrounding as of last night so I put her in the Zoozone with oodles of new bedding and then her own used bedding on top. I think it's more bedding than she's seen in her life and I left her to her explorations. I wish I'd had my camera on me because there were a lot of cute moments where she looked like a duck diving for food with just her backside visible sticking out of the substrate
And of course, there is now a free hamster on the local classifieds...sigh.

Re: What have I done?!
I'm so glad you got her. Maggie is going to have such a great life with you. I remember when we took in Bart and Homer gerbil - they'd never had loo roll either and they went mad for it. It was such a pleasure introducing them to new things.
