My New Little One
Hey Guys,
I have a confession, I bought a new hamster. My local pet shop has had one hamster for a month now. I am friendly with the owners in there and when I first saw her I said I would probably be back for her one day and a month later I got her. I had a bin cage left over from my hamster when I thought I'd need it to house her pups. After being unsuccessful with pups I went down there today and left with her. I named her custard. She is very sweet but young. She is already very tame and I have held her. She does need to put a little bit of weight on so any ideas on how to help me with this are much appreciated.
Anyway below should be a picture of her.
Hope your all having a wonderful new year so far.

Re: My New Little One
It must have been meant to be if you said that and she was still there a month later. Our little boy, Sam, is relatively small and could do with an extra few grams on him. it doesn't help that he picks at his food and only eats the colourful stuff. Would also like to see other peoples suggestions for weight gain hamster stuff

Re: My New Little One
Congrats! I'm on my work computer and so don't see a pic, but I already have a feeling she's completely charming!
As for weight gain, if it were me, I would ask my vet what she recommends.

Re: My New Little One
I would just give a variety of foods with occasional treats of egg, baby foods, and porridge. Unless you suspect there's a physical reason for her to be underweight in which case I would see a vet to deal with the underlying cause. Most likely though she's just been stressed or underfed at the pet shop and good care will take care of it!
Congratulations

Re: My New Little One
Aww, so cute! As for weight gain, just feed her normally and give her a little bit of spinach lettuce if you have it. My Syrian is very picky sometimes, mostly only willing to try new things outside of her cage, but feeding her the same food the pet shop fed her I find has kept mine happy.
Hope custard does well in her new environment!

Re: My New Little One
I feed her Harry hamster and selective hamster together she had Harry hamster at the pet shop. She doesn't seem interested in food at the moment. I did suspect that she had wet tail but after taking her back and showing them they seem to think its okay. I will be keeping an eye on her progress and il be weighing her to see if she increases in weight. I hope she does she has a lovely temperament and is very sweet. I will be keeping a close eye on her thought. Thanks to all for your suggestions and kind comments.

Re: My New Little One
She is very cute. Two of my four are small, but happy and healthy. Maybe she just going to be tiny

Re: My New Little One
She's only about 80 grams. The pet shop said she could be anything from 8 to 16 weeks old. She's been in there a month at least so she must be over 12 weeks.
