Red face Walnuts?

We have a walnut tree outside our house, and hundreds fall into our garden. Considering the tree is being pulled up by the end of the year, I didn't want to waste them, ive eaten them before and all that, so I was wondering if the hamsters would like them
If they can eat them, do I open them first or give them whole? x

My hamsters love walnuts, Noah especially I give mine a small piece every so often. I would thoroughly wash any you give to them from outside and be 100% sure that no chemicals or anything has been used on or around the tree.

I'm sure you can... It's in the nail trimming thread I think about making a small hole in the shell then letting them nibble at it.
Just make sure the shell is clean I guess!

Hi Gazmo, hammies LOVE walnuts. All of mine do. I just got a grocery delivery yesterday and one of the things I ordered was a bag of whole walnuts. I usually have them shelled, but I wanted these for the hams. I gave the 2 Syrians a whole walnut each in the shell so they had to dig them out. I cracked them a bit first so they can get some of the nut but they have to work for the rest. I cracked another walnut in half and gave the half pieces still in the shell to the dwarf hammies. Everybody was thrilled. I would be out of my mind happy to have a walnut tree. Besides giving them to the hams, I adore them myself. I put them in sugar cookies and in banana muffins and banana bread.
