I use a function called supermacro mode. It is better not to use flash. If you have an older camera just wait until they are still lol. Try using props such as a box of treats. it tends to distract them and keep them still(ish)

If you have a look on your camera, does it have a flower symbol. I think this is a good setting for taking pictures as it reduces shake and hence blur.
I always try and give hammy a treat to encourage them to stay still when taking a picture as they are constantly on the move when awake which makes picture taking very difficult...

I use a Canon EOS 30D with a good zoom lens with image stabilization and a ring flash so you don't get bounce back from around the hamster. Props are essential

Re: How do you take a good pic of your Hamster?
I don't have a fancy camera, and have no expensive things to make them good, but my photos come out good, and they're nearly always really clear.
I always use flash - if I don't, it tends to go blurry. I don't know if it's just the camera or me though. I just wait until they pose cutely and take lots. It's good to have something near them for them to investigate, and food is always good. So you could just give them a toilet roll tube, or some yoghurt drops..

With my compact camera, now I try to not use the harsh flashlight if possible, but provide enough natural/inadescent light and eventually increase ISO. I use the aperture priority mode and choose the maximum aperture, activate the macro mode and zoom in to 100 mm (35 mm equiv.) - my camera works at this focal lenght best for closeups. I also try to keep hamster eyes sharp and shoot from around their level.

Re: How do you take a good pic of your Hamster?
I'm with Jayne I don't know if it's me or the camera but I'm quite happy with my pictures, generally!! A lot of editing does go on though people often ask how I get so close to them but I don't, I just crop and zoom when I load them onto the computer
Mind you, it does show how much time I spend sitting watching my hammies because for every "decent" photo there are 10 rubbish ones

ILMH
Why don't you part exchange your £200 camera for a 350d? There are loads of camera exchanges around the country and that way you can save yourself the cost of a Canon at full retail.
