I think all of us here at HC have been there! I was hammie-less after the loss of my Syrians Basil and Chino last year, until this March when me and my college friend went and adopted our new room mate - Marley the hybrid. Since then I've taken on three more. And still open for adoptees!

Once I'm out of college I can take on larger animals - I REALLY want a pair of chinchillas.
And a ball python. And geckos. And tree frogs. And a sugar glider!

We have 8 Syrians, 4 dwarfs with 1 litter, 2 gerbils little rescues. I find it very hard to let the hamster I breed go to their new homes (and so it should be) I keep in touch with the ones I have rehomed and I am always there for the new mams and dads, but If I didn't know I have to rehome the ones I don't feel are right for my program or the shows I would be over run.

Would a 20 gal be large enough? I was informed that tank toppers are more for mice :L Anyway I've got my brothers ham in Lilo's bin and I've been watching them just in case. So far the only dispute was over where to sleep xD No squeaks, just pinning every once in awhile, so, we'll see how this goes....

As long as its 20 gallons LONG then it will be suitable. Bigger is better, but that tank would be fine and in the future if you felt she needed more space then you could upgrade her. I'd use the tank as its a suitable size and so you can separate Lilo and the new ham. There both WW's or hybrids right? If so they have a high chance of fighting and, unfortunately, injury as they are not siblings and have not lived together as a pair. There may not be squeaks now but its best not to leave it too late.

Not long term in my opinion, but I'd use it if it was bigger than the original cage, at least in the short term

Forgive me for asking, but are the two hams the same species and gender?

They were actually siblings and sold together as a pair, but my brother wanted his own and etc... They are WW (possibly hybrids)

I don't think it's a 20 gal long :L

Just because they are sisters and were once together doesn't mean they will get along now as they have been separated.

I do realize that, so I'm monitoring them until I can get a hold of my grandmother to ask about the tank. I feel really bad about the whole situation, I should have just kept them together the entire time...
