Review for Simon's Rodents?
I'm not sure if this goes against the forum rules, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the supplier Simon's Rodents from personal experience?
I've heard about them quite a lot, and I know that they supply animals for many pet shops but I haven't found any reliable reviews on the quality of their animals and their breeding. They are located in Cambridgeshire.
They sell everything from mice and hamsters, to sugar gliders and jerboas, hedgehogs, skinks and other reptiles - you name it.
Any thoughts?

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
I have no personal experiance, but I question the vast specter of animals they breed...
But then again they might have qualified people responsable for each species, not likely, but they might....

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
They are a mass breeding Rodent Farm.
So WW's or Campbell hamsters are Hybrids.
I had a Dwarf "WW" which was a hybrid. She lived a long life, 2 years 3 months but had behaviour problems not her fault just the lack of interaction with humans & no selective breeding for temperment
She was also a carrier of ringworm I found this out because where she bit me I caught ringworm, she never developed Ringworm she was just a carrier

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
That sounds terrible! :O I found one report that said Pet At Home sometimes get their stock from them, is that true?
On their species list on their website they don't mention Campbells, only Winter Whites, but the fact that it says "6 colours available" really does beg questions.

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
From what i know of simon rodents supply pets at home and an awful lot of pet shops in this country. I have 3 places that sell hamsters all within a 20 min walk. All from simons rodents. Hence why my 3 are rescues

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
This place really does not sound nice. :/ Does anyone know about the conditions that the animals are kept in and bred under?

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
I'm not going into that as it would be classed as company bashing
So I will bow out now

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
I only just saw your edit of the colours. :S Oh dear.
Oh right, fair enough. I'm going to try and get some more information on this, I am really not impressed right now.
Thanks for your input!

Re: Review for Simon's Rodents?
Just sounds like a typical rodent mill to me. Whether they are good or bad I can`t say, but I`ve only heard their name mentioned on various forums. If they do supply Pets At Home and independent pet shops, well that just proves what everyone suspected, that their animals come from these mills and not smaller private breeders. Most of the hamsters I have had as rescues probably all originated from places like this. But I don`t hold that against the hamsters!
