Default Time for Mr T and Todd ~

A few new snaps of teeny Todd and Mr Tumbleton (aka Finley).

I picked up the new bins for the hamhams yesterday.
Unfortunately I was a little disappointed, as the web page did not specify that the dimensions given were the external measurments, or the dimensions of the lid. As the box narrows down it's height, the base is actually shorter in both length and width by 10cm. So instead of a great 80 X 40cm floor space, I actually have 70 X 30cm. This actually makes quite a big difference, because the boxes appear to be very narrow. :/

This size is still ideal for Todd, who is tiny and not overly active, but for Mr Tumbleton I really could have done with those extra cms. However, they still have quite a bit of height, so I will be added platforms and levels, plus an awesome grass hammock which he will love.

You may notice that Fin's box is quite bare, but I'm still buying in his gear. Plus I need to mod the box so I can add those levels.
I've kitted the boxes out to get an idea of what I'm working with, and so they can explore their new tubs.

Here's Toddy's new pad! He's getting a suspended platform too, and some hanging items that I need to fit. He LOVES his shoebox. I stuck a tunnel in it and filled it with bedding, because he loves having a 'burrow' of sorts, and it also acts as a platform. At some point I will be changing the box to a wooden one, but for now he's happy with cardboard.
He was very active last night, which is unusual for Todd. He was zipping on his wheel and digging like a nutter. He also loves scrambling about on his pebble pile and running into his bamboo tunnel.

And here are the two boxes side by side. Mr T, who has very big and sensitive ears, wasn't sure at first about living next door to a noisy dwarf scratching around. It didn't take him long though to get used to it.
There he is sat on his rock, which he loves. You can see from this just how big he is!

Some snaps of Toddy.
Looking fat and round on his wheel.

He's so fast that I couldn't focus!

It wasn't long before he decided it was dinner time.

And here comes Mr Tumbleton! He's less of a recluse than Todd, so I can get more than a couple pics of him.

He loves his sand tray. That is a medium weaning dish that he's filling up - he is a big boy!

Hiding away. I love his little white beardy chin!

Wearing the wheel down! (this 20cm one is only temporary, he's got a 12" on order)

He then decided he was hot. Time to flop down under the bridge.
He has a funny habit of sticking his little tail right up in the air. :L

They both look like happy hams to me! Well done on your new Bin cages. I agree about the sizing coming in shorter than you expected was a bit of a downer for you, but they look fine and the beauty of storage tub cages is they can be adapted and added to at not much cost.

Thanks alot, RC. They are indeed quite happy, especially little Todd. He's loving his new layout!

Yeah I'm looking forward to getting hand-on and into the hammy DIY. I will be sure to post up developments. Fin will be getting loads of platforms and hanging stuff to clamber over. From watching him I've gathered that he loves to climb and investigate, and he loves a look-out.

Chinese hamsters are the `true` climbers of the hamster world, while Russian dwarfs will attempt to climb, they don`t have the same grip as they have furry lined feet! But solid wide platforms with good ramps are loved by Russian hamsters. So placing those inside will give him upper levels but without having any longish drops underneath. I love to see what other members do with their set up`s and I`m sure your having great fun doing so!

I'd love to get a Chinese at some point. But then, I want at least one of every species. xD

Yeah Todd is more of a digger if anything, but he likes the opportunity to clamber about. I will be giving him one low, wide platform on the other side with loads of deep substrate underneath.
Mr Tumbleton tries to get up as high as he can, and he loves running over his long bridge. I love how syrians are quite happy sat up on a little look-out post, watching the world go by. :L

Thanks, Gazmo!

When I was filling bottles/bowls and doing my morning spot-clean, Toddy came out to say good morning and to have a little millet breakfast. Got some quick snaps.
They are a little blurred I'm afraid.

Nose-deep in millet.

Peek-a-boo!

Checking out the camera.

Nom nom nom...
