Default missing hamsters?

Has anyone ever properly lost a hamster before? I've just been worried about this since laterly.

I also find it strange that a lot of shops round me often find hamsters walking about the back or even inside them.

I know when Kat lived with her parents, she found a hamster in the dustbin. It is outside the house a meter away from a footpath in the middle of a small town/large village. It was a gross bin, and when opened this poor mite was so weedy and hot and sickly looking. He was a little normal hybrid (VERY hybrid) and definately NOT one of Kats hamsters. He got named Binly and lived a long and happy life and happily accepted a new cage mate.

Bob has escaped twice, seriously - she ended up behind the walls and under the floors, and possibly exploring most of the building!

Prevention is best - and since Bob kindly highlighted how to escape the flat, we've kindly hamster-proofed her exits!

As Spud says, hamsters will normally return to their nest - and Syrians are pretty consistent in this. Leave food and bedding out, and they will normally avail themselves of it. The tip is not to panic - they've probably just slunk off for a quick explore and a kip, and will be back for dinner.

Dwarves can, however, go feral in some instances - Robos, having not been domesticated for so long, are an excellent example - which raises new challenges, should a quick recapture not occur.

Cody my LH golden r.i.p poor little man. I shut him in the bathroom for a run round, I must have gone in there forgot to shut the door and he escaped I was worried he had got behing the bath and into the ceiling I could hear him but couldn't find him. I searched everywhere about 30 minutes later a litte cody appeared in front of me in the utility room like been looking for me lol I think he rather enjoyef his run round.

Sarla r.i.p, he got out the ball

Minka r.i.p she learnt how to twist the ball open so that was the end of her going in the ball she used to escape.

I lost a robo once appeared that night in mums housework box my sister has forgotten to shut the cage lid and out got the robo.

When our hammies are in balls I always check where they are and the cages all have pegs on them so I check and double check before I go to bed that everyone is in their cage and the doors are all shut.

Never have I lost one properly they have all come and found me. I have never seen an escaped hamster in shops etc.

My parents saw a wild mouse running round tesco a few weeks ago they told customer service and they were all looking for this mouse lol was quite funny.

I had a hamster as a teenager who was looked after by my best friend when I went on holiday. She didn't tell me til months afterwards, but apparantly he escaped and they didn't find him for days (he turned up on the kitchen floor the day before I came home). He was fine though thank goodness!
