Are Robos truly hard for beginners? - Page 3

Oh I also adore robos (and have three) but wouldn't advise them for someone who wants a cuddly pet, as a lot of robos won't be quite as easily tamed as other species.

so..I gather as long as I make sure they dont get too much sugar it wont be too much an issue to get a hybrid? I dont know any breeders in my area so thats why i asked, I made certain to take out all sugary foods of my Hazel Hamster upon purchase, so so long as I continue to do that should I be fine? I have a friend who is a vet and a sister who is about to become one so if any issues occur I always have them in case of an emergency.

EDIT: I found this on craigslist http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/for/3860006974.html is this truly a robo or not? I just feel bad for the poor guy

Yep that's a Robo in the pictures, looks a litlte scruffy. : )

I'm not sure if this is what you were asking, but there is no Hybridization in Robos as they don't breed with other species. Only WW and Campbell's can interbreed and create hybrids.

Aww he's adorable! I'd say get him, but only if you feel you are ready for him. I've had at least one of every kind of hamster (except a true winter white) and robos are lots of fun. Mine is tame and it took a while to get him there but I can't imagine not having him.

I have 3 adopted Robos and I love them all. They are great if you don't care too much about handling them. I rarely have mine out of their tank, I just love watching them run around and exploring their environment.

Two of the Robos I adopted had escaped and been chased by the family cat when they were with the people I adopted them from. As a result they were VERY timid, I hardly saw them for the first two weeks, they just hid in their nest the entire time!

My first hamster was a Syrian, she is lovely. Is was fairly easy to tame and has stayed really tame. I can play with her for over an hour at a time and she doesn't mind! I also have a pure bred winter white who is lovely and very friendly like my syrian. However she does need to be handled every day. Robos are more watching hammie, less hands on. If you want a smaller hamster because you think that they need less space you are wrong! All hamsters nedd roughly the same amount of room (at least 360 sq inches) as they are very active

for a first hamster I would denfinatly say get a Syrian Hamster as the stay tame once tamed, are slower, easier to handle and very friendly as a rule!

I'm sorry but WW often get diabetes because they aren't pure... They are a mix of Campbell and WW, will have the WW features and could change color BUT would be hybrid anyway... If you get a WW, you need to make sure they have a pedigree and come from a reputable breeder so that you reduce the chances of your ham suffering diabetes...
