Travelling to pick up hamsters on saturday.
On Saturday I am travelling from norfolk (yes that strange place) to the west midland by train to pick up hamsters from Tammy.
I will be picking up a female Syrian, and Robos.
I'm getting the cages ready tomorrow, I have chews and a few toys, as everything hasn't arrived yet. But I shouls have a wodent wheel for the Syrian arriving soon and climbing toys. For the robos I am still waiting for the SS wheels but have most of there things ready. the sand baths should arrive on saturday or monday I think. But thats sorted anyway.
I'm just a bit worried about travelling back with the hamsters. I've got two of the paw print carriers, one has a strap on it to make it easier.
Is there anything that I should do to make it a really nice trip for the hamsters?
I'm looking forward to it really though I'm going to be asleep for a few days after it, lol (not really). Do you also have any tips on how I should keep myself busy while on the train? I'm on there for about 5-6hours both ways.
Thanks
Ness

Wow, 5-6 hours each way!
Well, I would make sure there is some cucumber or other fruit/veg in the carry cases for the hamsters and some dried food or a dog biscuit. Other than that, try to keep them in as quiet an area as possible (not always possible, I know) and everything should be fine

I think as long as you keep them as dark and quiet as you can they will be just fine. Hope you get a seat with a space beside you and buy a newspaper so you can make a quiet tent for them. If anyone sees them they may create an interested stir but I would not let people peep at them as it may stress them. I expect Tammy will give you some of their old bedding to put in which will help them settle and feel safe. Give a good deep layer so they can bury down. safe journey

I know this sounds strange but I have a poncho thats really light but dark and was thinking of hanging that over them so they will still be able to breath well and all that. I's just an idea.

i'd just make sure there's tons of bedding to burrow in and a tube or something to hide. Take a puzzle book, walkman, gameboy etc. depending on what you have.
Yes i'm stuck in the 80s (walkman, gameboy...). Shell suits are excellent for storing lots of stuff in the pockets

I still play gameboys and ps1's, and listen to 80s music, and I was born in the last year of the 80s

ok tammy said that she has everything to put in the carriers, I haven't had a chanceto read any of my hamster book so I should try and read one while travelling. though I should also do uni work, lol.
I'm just worried I guess. I've never had to worry about hamsters and travelling this fare at the same time.
though I'm more worried about getting lost at the stations when changing train, lol

there's usually one big board to look what platform to go to, but the worst that can happen is you have to check all of them! you'll be fine. hams are in show pens for longer than that and are fine!
