toys
What toys do you guys suggest to put in a savic cambridge cage just thinking of giving wifes hamster a bit more to do think she has only been up the ladder once to the next level spends most of her time awake in her wheel must be a bit boring just doing that or should we wait til she gets a bit older.Been in her ball a few times so thats something different as well. Thanks everyone i know im asking a few questions but wanna give both the new hamsters a good life.Struggling a bit with daughters she wont come out and constantly biting and clicking her teeth when we go near her? haven't even managed to get her in her ball yet poor daughter shes been crying cause shes completely different to the wifes hamster she runs up ya arms and everything shes never bitten any of us

Most pet shops sell ka bobs which are metal rods that you can put salt licks and wood blocks onto, mine all love those.
I've also got hanging garland things which they love, they've got little pieces of wood hanging from them which they climb onto, under and around and chew to pieces too.
Otherwise some tubes and empty loo rolls are always good fun for hammies?
I've had lots of fun experimenting, anything they can investigate they seem to like and anything they can eat they seem to adore!!

Hi Simhel,
How about some tubing? Cardboard tubes are good and our hamsters like them! Or something they could hide in? We have a cottage chew which our hamsters like as it is a hide out and something they can nibble.
Hope this helps

Hi I have my Kumi in a savic Cambridge cage
In his cage he has a loo roll. One of those ladders with toys hanging down they are about £7.99 from P@H or other petshops. An edible Lofa ball. He did have a house he slept in but decided he wanted to move to the bottom of his cage and sleep in fur stuff and carefresh which it piles up (he isn't cold just likes doing it). Sometimes they will play with the lofa ball and chew it. He also has his potty and his wheel. Kumi spends his time running up and down the levels. I think no matter how much we give hammies to do they still prefer chew bars lol.

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we are all happy to answer questions so don't worry about that!
I would suggest getting some willow sticks (they sell them in most petshops) and sticking them through the bars. I put mine across the corners kinda diagonally. Noodles(my hamster) chews them and uses them to climb too.
I also have the kabob stick(I got a parrot one made from metal as I was worried she'd eat the plastic hamster on the proper one!!) with wooden blocks on and she likes that.
Maybe you could get a Fiddlestix bridge or a snackshak log - Noodles likes these and they double as a chew and a toy.
The wooden puzzles that you slot together are good too - I can never remember what they are called but they are thin wood in bright colours in different shapes and you slot them together - they sell them at P@H.
A few people on here have little hammocks or sputniks that you could hang from the roof and they look fun but I don't have a barred roof so can't have them myself. The ladders like Sarah is talking about look awesome too.
I'm sorry to hear that your daughter was upset but tell her not to worry - some hamsters just take longer than others. It'll def. be worth it - Noodles has always been quite lively (made the most horrid, scary sounds and took a chunk out of my boyfriend when we first got her!!) but she's gone quite cuddly now and it's great ... but we've had her almost a year! Just keep trying - maybe just almost start again - get her used to your voice, then to take treats from you and so on. There are a lot of people here who can give you better advice though if you need it!
Good luck.
