Default OMG, I've lost Poppy in my flat (I hope!) Panic!!!

I'm in such a state. When I came into the living room this morning, Poppy's cage was lying on its side on the floor....with the contents everywhere. Obviously she's gone. I've no idea what happened (and I'll worry about that later) but I feel terrible as my little darling must have had an awful shock.

I'm praying that she's still somewhere in my flat (there's draught excluder under the front door so that would prevent her getting out that way) but where? I've search the kitchen, living room and bathroom so I just have the bedroom left. She could be anywhere - and she could be moving which means the searches are a bit pointless unless I get lucky and see a glimpse of her.

I'm in such a state. I've rang work and said I can't come in(which will get me in lots of trouble) and my heart is beating so fast. So I thought I'd try and calm down with a cup of tea and HC before continuing with my turbo-flap.

What a disaster! I adore my little Popsicle. My boyfriend was saying only last night that he's worried what it'll do to me when little Poppy passes on as he knows how much I love her. Aargh!!

This is my poppet:

Awww ELC - I'm thinking of you. Have you thought about making a bucket trap or something similar? when Yogi went walkies I popped his cage on the floor overnight and listened hard and he had ended up in the airing cupboard overnight. Do you have somewhere like that in the flat?

Put some brocolli out in the middle of the floor as well, seeing as she's particularly partial to that.

I really hope you find her - good luck and try not to worry. She's probably sitting somewwhere having a snooze and wondering what all the fuss is about xx

i hope you find her safe and sound, head2head is right - poppy is probably sleeping safe somewhere after her adventures in the big world

Ive totally pulled my room apart searching for a robo before only to have him run back to his cage

set her cage back on the floor, when my hamsters have escaped they've ran back to their cage for food/water and ive caught them

If you hang around long enough they usually turn up. You may need to sit up all night but we have found they do come our

Check here. Also put the cage on the floor with a ladder in to it and sometimes the go home. Put out food and water in all locations and look which one is taken. wait there. Look for poos as you can sometimes find them thre. Under sofas and up the back of drawers (often inside the top one) are favy places to hide.
You may want to put a male on the floor as she may come out to see him.
I really hope you find her ELC and everything is crossed for a safe return.

keep your ears open, you may hear some scruffling somewere, When Ted escaped being the "master" of hiding went straight for a plastic bag

My dwarfs wake up during the day, so you may find her soon. I suppose you could get something long and try and gently poke it under things and around things, just to maybe wake her up if shes there.

I have faith that you will find her

I have found they like to go behind the fridge or freezer as there is a little heat from them so it makes it nice and cosy for them. 99.9% of the time they will come out when they hear you calling them (once they have woken up) and look at you as if to say, "ok, so where is my food then, and what about my cuddle". Try not to panick, and just keep your eyes open, she will return, loved animals normaly do.

We recently found an escapee sat inside our 'subwoofer' from our surround sound - the hole in the front made a perfect front door - Id agree to do the bucket trap, and try to stay calm, Im sure she has had a very exciting evening exploring, and now has found a nice comfy spot to rest in.

Here's hoping she puts you out of your misery shortly by popping up safe and well

I'VE FOUND HER!

I was sitting on the sofa talking to my boyfriend on the phone, and she just appeared in front of me. My gasp of shock/delight then scared her and she ran off again and disappeared. So I laid on the floor and started talking and saying her name, she reappeared, I kept talking and she walked right on to my hand. That's why she's my little darling!

I'm so so happy...and relieved.

Thank you all for your advice and messages of support (especially head2head's texts) as it kept me sane in my 2 hours of total panic.

Since I'm not at work today (they think I've got a leaking ceiling - I couldn't say that my hamster's escaped and I'm upset), I'm going to Surrey Pet Supplies to buy some presents for my little darling to welcome her home!
