*Exhausted*.. To many rodent cages
*pants*
To those of you who have hamsteys, or just lots of rodent, I dont know how you do it lol! Today was my pet cage cleaning day. Three large bin cages and one 29 gallon tank "thats not easy to lift! " And I still have a ten gallon sand tank to clean out... Whoo lots of work!
Usually its actually not that bad because I clean my Roborovski tank like once a month, hes in the 29 gallon and to tell you the truth he could probably be cleaned out every two months, but I like to add fresh bedding and change the cage around every so often.
My Syrian gets his cage cleaned every two or three weeks. Its my gerbils that I need to clean every week since right now there are 8 of them four to their own bin.
Maybe Im out of shape but mine are staked so there is allot of reaching and stretching and carrying, not to mention trying to handle this huge bag of aspen bedding! I think I need to sit down, drink some water and eat something hehe
Oh but I love my fur balls, and id probably take on more in a snap if I had the room!! hehe

you mentioned a huge bag of aspen, here's an idea, get a large bin (like you house your rodents in) and put the aspen in there, when you go to put the bedding in the cage, sit them side by side and just scoop it in there with your hands! it's LOTS easier than trying to "pour" it out of the bag lol
I know how you feel, I don't do all my cages at once, I do them over a 2-4 day period, lol. First one rat cage (usually the bigger one, the boys cage) then the next night one girls cage, then the next the other girls, then the hamster cage (since she is the cleanest, lol).
Sometimes, if I have more energy, I'll do 2 or 3 cages in one night, but if I were to try to clean all of them at once, I'd be *soooooooo* tired. lol

Cleaning,,,
I do some every night but really go for it at weekends - luckily Roborovski don't need cleaned out more than once a month - all my Syrians are cleaned out weekly and my Russian Dwarves and Chinese fortnightly. I use a mixture of bedding types which helps to extend the life of the substrates - wooden pelleted cat litter, paper based litter (Biocatolet), Spruce shavings, shredded brown paper bags, and this great product called Megazorb which is more commonly used for horses. To this mix they also have things such as empty kitchen/toilet roll tubes, egg boxes, small cardboard boxes and whatever else I have accumulated for them.

Cleaners
The cleaners at my work keep them all for me and they get through a lot a week luckily for my hamsters.

Robos and tubes
My Roborovski all love hiding and running through the tubes - some try to turn them around whilst inside them... come out all upside down legs flailing

I don't clean all mine out at the same time - Phoebe is once a week at the moment, Pip & Merry once/twice a week usually at the same time (bless the little boys but they do make the robo smell, I don't mind it but others around me do) and the girl robos probably every 2-3 weeks.
The robos all love tubes, hiding & running through them, and Merry always shoves one into the corner of his cage and uses it as a toilet. Phoebe thinks she's a gerbil and will reduce a tube to shreds in about 2 days, so I've started giving her egg boxes too - they take her a bit longer!
