Default Can a hammy catch tonsillitus?

Can a hammy catch tonsillitus? I have just been given more anti-biotics for tonsillitus and paranoid about one of the hammys getting ill from me. I have had handleing at a minimum for about 2 weeks as I had a cold and then had sinus issues that has now all cleared up but have tonsillitus Can they catch the infection and it go to somewhere else like on their lungs? Why do children carry so many germs?? :P

It's a nightmare, work are trying to send me home I said I'm not leaving until I'm dying lol! I'm worried about making one of them ill but because I haven't done much handling due to my cold I feel bad as I know they want out more! Dotty came out for ages but that was an exceptional evening. I no if they will catch it they have to wait I don't want them to get poorly

if you've got tonsillitis caused by bacteria rather than a virus (which it sounds like you since you've got antibs), then i would guess that the bacteria could be passed to a ham. how it would manifest i don't know.

prob best to keep taking precautions til you've fin your course my emi had a respiratory infection recently and i'd had sinus trouble. i don't know if they were were related but they could've been...

Tonsilitis describes a wide variety of throat ailments, so it can be hard to tell. Streptococcus, for instance, can be transferred to dogs and horses - but I'm not quite sure about hamsters. Maybe ask a vet?
