Re: Hamster toilets
I use a cheap vase that I found at the dollar store. Depending on what I have, I either put Chinchilla sand in it or the potty litter (he doesn't take sand baths, just wees in it). The potty litter is cheaper though.

Re: Hamster toilets
I really like the side way spice jars as toilets, but all of my hams will kick the sand out without fail. So now I use small upright glass jars as their toilet and just bury them deep into the substrate so it's not too tall to climb in. That works pretty well for me, since the wee and sand doesn't get kicked out anymore and I can clean their toilets much faster now.

Re: Hamster toilets
My Basil has 2.....one on the bottom floor & one on the top floor (his cage has 3 floors) He uses the bottom one in the day time as its near his bed & the top one when he gets up in the evening after days sleep.
Its funny to hear him get out of bed in the day time & use the bottom one.You hear a little rustling sound as he turns around 3 times then settles down to wee, with a look of pure concentration on his face!He then washes his little boy bits when hes finished :O)

Re: Hamster toilets
Daisy has a corner potty, and she uses it all the time. Got it after having her a week. I use cat litter.
First time I put her wet (wee) sawdust in the potty with the litter and bingo she used it. It's great I clean it every few days. And don't have to clean her whole cage each week. Clean her main cage every two weeks.
Hope this helps

Re: Hamster toilets
My Syrian loves his toilet, to start with he seemed to like digging and rolling in it like a bath, but then started to use it as a toilet (esp as he has a real sand bath now as well - but sometimes likes to go in the bath too!). As the one I have is covered and his wet corner used to under the level in the cage (which is where I put his toilet) he likes to go and sit in it like a hidey hole.
