Re: Just had to separate Matrim
I have thought about splitting them into pairs, but I'm concerned that I'd pick the bully that was picking on him to put with him. But I still have some days to think over what I'm doing until he is healed.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
Matrim was out and about last night. I made him a bridge out of popsicle sticks and stuck a homemade treat on top. When I went to bed, the treat was gone and when I woke up this morning the bridge had fallen over. I think I need to make the bridge more sturdy or make him a smaller one. But at least he's not staying in his hut all night.
Mom and dad are coming home today from visiting the sister, tomorrow I'll be able to go out and get Matrim proper toys.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
shame they had to be separated but I love the fact they are named after WoT characters. Can't wait for the last book to come out!

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
Finally someone who reads WoT! I just started the series and I love it! I'm still picking up the books, and the comics, and slowly reading through them, or I cheat and find a decent priced audiobook to obsess over for a few days until I finish it. In fact I have an audiobook coming today in the mail. I can't wait to get it and play it, I wonder if playing it for Matrim will make him feel better. I do love how Robert Jordan writes, I just wish he lived long enough to finish the series.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
Okay, we just did a little better. All four boys were up, so I first handled Rand, Pippin, and Marry, mainly to see if anyone got any wounds from fighting, thankfully none. So they aren't fighting.
Then I got Matrim out of his bin cage and brought him over to look at his brothers' bin cage. He got much calmer once he smelled and saw (not sure how much he saw since it was through a bin wall) his brothers, he even tried to climb up into the cage to get to his brothers. After that, he crawled on top of me before settling in the crook of my arm. He got so calm just seeing/smelling his brothers that he groomed himself in the crook of my arm and started dozing off. I got some of it on camera, I'll be uploading the clips later tonight as the night is still young and I want to see what else I can get on camera for today.
But I can't believe how well these boys are with being handled after having them for only a week. Anyway, I did as recommended and put a little bit of the three boys' bedding in Matrim's cage and a bit of Matrim's bedding into theirs'; they haven't noticed it yet.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
Just came back from getting something from my room and I saw Matrim running on his flying saucer! Yes! I thought for sure he didn't know how to use it, but he sure proved me wrong.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
Okay, I just had Matrim out. He's doing so good at being handled these past few days, though you still have to catch him when he's in the bin cage as he won't come to your hand. When he is out, he is lovely. He's still reacting when he sees/smells his brothers when I bring him over to their bin cage, wanting to get into their bin cage to be with them.
Today I decided to show him the girls through the glass of their tank and he tried digging at the glass to get in. I don't think his determination to meet the girls were because they were girls, I think he just wanted to meet them because they were other Robos. The girls didn't seem to notice him through the glass, that or they didn't care; most likely they didn't care. Nothing seems to faze these girls.
He's almost healed, tomorrow I'm going to set up the playpens and put Rand, Marry, and Pippin in one and Matrim in the other. Depending on how that goes, I may decide to split cage them or if it goes badly, I'll have to think of something else. If I was certain the girls wouldn't get pregnant, I'd think about putting him in with them as the girls are so much calmer than Marry, Pippin, and Rand and the girls have more of the same temperament as Matrim. But the girls are old and if they get pregnant, I'm worried they may not survive.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
OMG. I thought all those names sounded familiar. I kept thinking...."Matrim...Matrim...I've heard that somewhere." You'd think after seeing the other names it would click. I actually only loved the first book but the next 3 just lost me over time and I gave up. But the first book was fantastic.
Anyway, my robos didn't take separation well. It broke my heart to see them looking for each other for hours. Snow has never been the same. But there was no other option. He had a wound in the rear a chip in the ear and all four of his feet were bloodied from nips. They were going at it constantly. I could tell it would eventually had led to death.
My mistake with them had been putting platforms in. I was naive about that. But sometimes it just happens and it's out of our control.
But it's bummed me out having them separated. I think about how better it would be if they had just been able to get along ALL the time still. But nothing to be done.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
Yay, another person who knows Wheel of Time series. I just started the second book, the audiobook just came today, even though I've had the book for two months. I like to read while listening to books, keeps me focused on the book longer.
I'm very sorry to hear that.
Thankfully, I've done everything right for these boys as I've had my girls long enough to know what to do, but one of the boys, still don't know who as they are all getting along, got stressed and started to beat up Matrim, hence the separation. I don't want Matrim to stay lonely as he is lonely at the moment. So the stress, at least for me, of reintroduction must be done.

Re: Just had to separate Matrim
Just did the playpen thing and it went nicely. No fighting through the bars or anything. So I took it a step further and put Matrim in with his brothers in the big playpen. I know it was stupid and could have ended bad. But it didn't! They acted like they never were separated! I returned them all to their own cages, the three boys to their 100L and Matrim to the 62.5L. Tomorrow I will split cage them in the 100L after a good cage cleaning, making sure that they won't get territorial with him. After split caging them for a few days, I'll remove the divider and see how it goes. If the three act territorial, I'm back to square one.
