It's because the pet stores want to make more money on the different colorations, even though they are the same as the agoutis. Pet stores are all about the money.

Fortunately its rare they do such daft things in the UK so we rarely see it. And if we do see it then its easier to know they're talking nonsense.
Fancy literally means "It looks different so we want to charge more" usually. Its a shame they do it really
