Never realised Fudge actually likes digging!
She's having a trial run in a ZooZone 1 for a couple of nights as I had it spare and she's been bar chewing a lot in her Imac. I figured if she settles in the ZooZone without chewing then I can buy her a new one (Don't know what to do if she doesn't but I'll have to cross that bridge if I come to it) Anyway I put all of the substrate and bedding from the imac in the ZooZone and then put a load more carefresh in and she's been digging away for ages. She's got an open nest at the moment and she's pushed a big pile of carefresh up around it and is shovelling the rest all over the place ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I never realised Syrians love diggin xD

Oh, they do! Mine will shovel their megazorb into one big pile and then through the cage bars and onto the floor. They dig under their wheel and toys until they're all subsiding.

Haha glad she's in a tank style cage now. She's gone to sleep under the big pile of carefresh and bedding now. All that digging must've tired her out

Re: Never realised Fudge actually likes digging!
My new boy has dug a tunnel leading under his wheel ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif) I've only ever used wood shavings before so I'm really impressed how well megazorb holds it's shape when tunneled through

Re: Never realised Fudge actually likes digging!
If she was a chewer I'd check regularly for any chew spots, particularly around where the hay manger fits. I moved Ol to one to combat her bar chewing (didn't work - she just hung off the roof) but randomly one night she started chewing the side and after 20 mins of sleepily ignoring her I discovered she was almost all the way through.
Do you scatter feed? If Fudge is into digging it'll keep her occupied

Oooh I'll try the scatter feeding now she has more floor space, thanks for the tip ![](https://www.hamstercentral.com/community/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Wow really? What is she in now? I really hope Fudge settles and doesn't chew, saying that, I'd rather find out before buying a new ZooZone haha

Re: Never realised Fudge actually likes digging!
She's in a zoozone 2 - it's an old second hand one and the plastic is much thicker so it's standing up to the occasional nibble.
I bought the ZZ1 after she was scared by the size of the ZZ2 and no adjustments seemed to bring back her confidence. And then I was forced to unceremoniously dump her back in it in the middle of the night so she didn't escape and she loved it instantly! Hamsters! >.<

Re: Never realised Fudge actually likes digging!
Haha good job we love them so much xD
I'll look into getting her the bigger one but I want to be absolutely sure before I get it. Only other options after that is a bin cage or a glass tank haha
Awwwh poor Olive. I'm glad she's happy in her ZZ2 now

Re: Never realised Fudge actually likes digging!
It makes sense to be sure. It's easy to spend a fortune playing musical cages.
The bar-less options are limited >.< and tanks are so cumbersome.
