Re: Shed for hamsters?
You would need a good, well insulated shed, with some sort of space heater. I know another member on here has done it but I'm unsure if that was custom built just for the hamsters or....

Re: Shed for hamsters?
I've never thought of it before but now you mention it I can see it could be a good idea for me.
A giant shed in my backyard complete with my spare oil filled radiator. A couple of my spare bike lights for light.
Then chuck my six hamsters, two birds and son in it and padlock it quick.
How peaceful it would be haha.

Hahaha. I hope you don#'t literally mean "chuck" though ... Plus your son would escape the moment you opened the door to either clean or feed the animals, or feed him!

You're right, there would be a mass exodus as soon as I opened the door. A weird kind of "escaping from the shed stampede" lol.

Re: Shed for hamsters?
Ask Wobbles
If its just a normal wooden shed you risk serious problems with the pets though - from wild mice/rats sneaking in through to hamsters freezing in the night and stuff.
Ditto a normal big brick shed - those get cold too.

Re: Shed for hamsters?
It would have to be a sophisticated shed I think someone posted about theirs in the DIY section of the forum once, actually
While there's nothing wrong with keeping hams in a (well insulated, warm) shed, I'd rather have mine in the house

Re: Shed for hamsters?
I know that Sue @ Tuftyfluff Hamstery (an NHC breeder) keeps her hams in a shed, which I seem to remember to be heated when necessary (so obviously not needed during the height of summer). I also seem to remember it had insulation to keep heat in. when I visited, it was earlier this year in January, so it was nice and toasty in the shed. so it's definitely doable!
