Default Wanting more hamsters.

I love my two girls very much but I have an empty Gabber rex, and I could make space here, Well I think I could.

It took two years to persuade Mum to let me have hamsters as well as the tats, although she is a softy! and loves them all.

I have looked at about a million or so pictures of Dwarf hamsters and would like one of them or maybe two.

I have read a fair bit about the squabbling so was thinking of rescuing a lone one,

I just worry that really I don't have the time. five rats, 2 hamsters, four fish tanks, full time job, studying,

so maybe not. I must resist temptation. I think I will give myself a deadline, say July and will reassess.

How do you guys manage so many? I guess the rats take up a lot of time for me and limits when the hamsters can come out, I won't risk the whole rats free ranging and hamsters in the ball thing.

any way just rambling and ignoring the essay I shoudl write.

and the books I should read and the work I should do.

xx

At the moment I have two syrian hamsters. Unless someone helped me to care for them, I don't think I could have more than about 3 syrians. I also have two guinea pigs. The piggies come out for cuddles but they will just sit on my lap and go to sleep so really they don't take up any time. They also go into their play pen thing for an hour or so a day, and in the summer they will spend a lot of time outside if the weather is okay for them. So really the piggies don't take much time for me.

As for my hamsters - Charlie comes out for cuddles multiple times a day, which usually last around 10 minutes. He also gets to run around the floor a bit, or run around beds, etc. Bobby will also get the same amount. They occasionally go into their balls but not often at all.

I also have school so I'm out 8:00 - 3:25. I have homework most nights but really it almost never takes longer than to 6pm. At the moment I have revision to do but I still have lots of time for the hamsters.

I think that if I had more syrians then I wouldn't be able to give them enough time out of the cage as I like to. When I had one syrian and three dwarfs it was easier I think.

Ultimately it's up to you whether or not you get a new addition. If you think you don't have time though then it probably would be best to reassess the situation in a few months and see if you would have enough time then. Saying that, dwarfs don't take up much time at all, but it's your decision.

I'm rambling now, and I don't think I've helped so I'll shush.

Not everyone on the forum has loads of hamsters. In fact most just have one or two! You have quite a lot on your plate at the moment so I would resist for now and then when your studies are over you can indulge with another one when you know you have more time. At different times in our lives we can have and manage different numbers of pets and you are wise to be able to judge the the time is not quite right now. It gives you something to look forward to For many, many years we just had one as other things took priority. On the forum we love to hear from everyone whether they have no hamsters at all or a hundred+++

I have just the four robo's at the moment, oh and my corn snake that seems to fill a lot of time, well that and our 4 kids! The kids are great with them too though so that helps.

I would really like to get a breeding pair of Campbells i was in fact sorting out getting some off another forum before it dissappeared Now though with the arrival of my snake i would probably struggle for space.

Its strange how things change so quickly although not always a bad thing. The main thing is being able to cope with what you have and setting routines. Whether its 4 dwarves or 150 syrians without a routine and help you'll get lost.

anyway enough of my rambling

I think only you can judge how much time you have and whether you can manage another pet and you will 'know' when the time is right. Then you will have a cage all ready to use.
Some of us on here do have a lot of hamsters, in my case I have a grown up family and lots of spare time as well as an 'empty nest' to fill up.

I only have 4 at the moment - Im at college and out of the house 6.30-5pm most days but they all come out of the cage every night. Only you know whether you have enough time for another hammie or not.
