Default Craigslist Browsing can be Heartbreaking

My heart always goes out to all the little hamsters that are put up on CragisList. I always find myself disgusted with all the cages these poor hamsters are forced to live in or the reasons people are giving up the hamster.

On the upside, I found two adds of Robos that are about 45 minutes away from me, both are in the same county. My mom agrees that one is super cute and that one happens to appear really tame; there's a picture of her fallen asleep on her owner's hand on her back. The other one is a mom in an add for her, six pups, and the dad of the litter.

REHOMING MY ROBO DWARF BABY HAMSTER

This one is the one that my mom thinks is pretty cute and the fact that her name is KiKi, the same as our dog, must be fate that we meant to have her. Mom's not too sure on the fate part, she also doesn't see why the odd number of three Robos might not work together. I told her that I can try to bond this girl with the mom on the other add, then put try to bond them with my two, Charlotte and Scarlett, but if none of that works I'm fine with keeping them apart. I think mom would rather they all stay in one tank.

Free 3 week old Robo Dwarf Hamsters

This is an add for a mom, dad, and six baby Robos. I would take mom if I could. I do have two problem with this one, one is the Robos are free and the supplies are $40, I always have problems with adds that have free hamsters as you don't know if someone will take them for snake food. The other reason is they only show one cage and a shoebox with 7 of 8 Robos seen. Now without emailing them I can't be certain if dad and the pups, pups are about 3 weeks they say, are still with mom and if they are all stuck in that CritterTrail or shoebox. I don't know if I can handle getting the mom and having babies because they were careless.

I haven't allowed myself to look at Craiglist since I read an ad that said, "$25 rehoming fee; just come get this hamster; my daughter is no longer interested." I don't think the people would have given me the hamster after I would have cussed them out for being irresponsible jerks.

Yes, I tend to sometimes see adds like "I got the hamster for my children, they don't want it anymore," but that doesn't deter me from browsing CraigsList. I've also seen worse adds like "If someone doesn't take this hamster, I'm going to release it in the subway station."

I think Kiki is adorable. I'm a sucker for husky-type robos (hence my lovely Peaches and Marmalade). I think you should get her! But bonding non litter mates is a minefield. Tammy's website will be useful:

It is always heartbreaking to see people get a pet without thinking about it and getting rid of it not soon after you got it. You should totally adopt one of them

I've bonded two non-littermates before. Charlotte and Scarlett aren't littermates, they're six months apart in age in fact.

I'm going to really push to get at least Kiki, she's so cute. And the reason her owner has to give her up is understandable and it is obvious she is very loved.

I quit after Nim. Between the despicable care between chinchillas and hamsters I can't do it.

kiki!! She looks so beautiful, very tame and well loved (excusing the tiny cage).

I'm afraid taking the mum from the other advert would be too risky like you said. She could be pregnant again. I also think it would be pretty heartbreaking to pick her up and see the others in crappy conditions. You'd want to take them all.

I hope you manage to get kiki, I'm so in love with her that I feel you need to buy her just so you can send more photos to me

Yes, everything looks good, except for the cage. But I can forgive the tiny cage as the owner most likely doesn't know any better. If I manage to get her, I'll try to get the price lowered by not taking the cage; it's so tiny and pink that I don't want it. She'll be getting a nice tank or bin cage if I get her.

Yes, I'll scratch off taking Robo mom. The family's all free, I might just end up with all 8 if decide to get her because I'll feel bad for the boys. 8 + my 2 + Kiki = 11 Robos! I don't have room in my tiny room for as many cages they'd need, plus my mom will have a real reason to call me an animal hoarder if I get them all. DX Then again, I could always use my sister's room to house some of them, it is bigger than mine and she's away at Grad School so it is empty. Or I could take them and rehome them to good homes so I know they won't be going to be snake food. Either way, I still encounter the problem of getting this all past my parents. I can't drive so I can't just go pick them up without my parents knowing until I return home. Why does this have to be so difficult?

XD Yes, I will try very hard to get Kiki! If I get her, I'll be sure to post tons of pictures for you!

Is Kiki definitely a girl? Its not so easy to see the pics clearly, but it looks like there may be a scent gland there
