Yes, more info needed please - do introduce your new hams properly to us - we need to know all about them, and if possible pics too!

This is in response to your other thread re. satin LH syrians...

Maybe you could consider going to Pets Corner - I think there are a couple in Kent.
I know you said not a pet shop but as you want quite a specific type and can't travel too far, it may be a bit tricky IMO (although I don't live in Kent so don't know about breeders/rescues there so could be wrong). Pets Corner seem really good - they don't buy from rodent farms or anything and the one near me is really impressive - the animals are kept in a locked room with a glass window so you can see what they have but can't hassle them as a member of staff would have to let you in. They would search through their breeders to find you what you wanted too I think - they say about it on their website. www.petscorner.co.uk

Or maybe you could go to a show in Kent (the others will know a lot more about that than me though!!) as I presume they will be more likely to have more specialist/unusual hamsters.

Hi Jamie I think the thing is with living in Kent we don't have alot of choice about what hamsters we are able to have as people who breed are up the country thus having to travel. Like me I would love different ones like a smoke pearl and others but I cannot travel to get them. I have hamsters from Petshops yes you don't get the choice of wonderful colours but others like my Mya for instance she is a Dom spot my Tochi is another lovely colour I got he is a Red eyed Ivory. Both petshop hams. Sometimes you do get ones that are special from petshops you just have to look out for them.

Also shows this is another they are all up the country due to the breeders living away and thus isn't any as far as I know in Kent.

My geography is pretty rubbish, and I am from 'up the country' but I wonder whether there may be any shows that are nearer to you?

http://www.towyvale.com/shows08/shows08.html lists all the shows for 2008 if that helps.

Even though I live further up than yourselves, we have always had to travel for at least an hour and a half to visit shows, sometimes up to three. i think it all depends on available venues and hamster club officials knowing their localities better, so they can find suitable places to stage them more easily. They also have to make them accessible for people, so for example, as I am on the East Coast, it is unlikely that a show would succeed in my town, as it would be too difficult to get to for most and not central in the country.

Anyway, hope you are lucky and can find one that is easy for you - good luck

I'm in London and I've found that the nearest shows to me in the South East are London itself (except its actually at Reading!), Knebworth, Thame and Blenheim. Its quite a trek to any/all of them. I still haven't been to a show but I'm really really hoping I can get to Blenheim and London. Fingers crossed!
