To be honest, I got a Robo first, and - lovely as Dave has turned out - I do consider it to have been a mistake
For the most part, they're not animals for regular handling - they're very timid, and very fast-paced; I could imagine them being quite exasperating for younger owners, as a result. They're small size makes them hard to handle, and requires some thought when choosing a cage.
I would consider them a suitable choice for a more experienced owner, based upon my own experience
Syrians are the normal 'entry' point for hamster ownership. Their size means they're that much more robust, and - having been pets for so long - they tend to be more tolerant of handling. Their pronounced personalities normally make them very endearing animals to own.
Without wishing to offed the assertion that Syrians are not very friendly is utter rubbish - and shame on PAH for suggesting it. This is probably something which should be flagged back to LMDH, as it couldn't be further from the truth. Like all animals, they require some taming, and it would be a shame to confuse that with any form of aggression; I think it's more us doing them a disservice, than vice versa.
Anyway, that's my experience - my thoughts - make of it what you will, I'm not going to tell you what to do; that's not how we do things here
Obviously, if you need any more advice, or questions answered, fire-away - we're all more than glad to help!
