Lightbulb Hammy Photography!

Hi guys! I was just wondering how you all manage to take such lovely pictures of your adorable hamsters. My pictures always end up quite shaky and blurry and don't always show JJ's good side. I would like to show all you awesome people how JJ's been doing, but would like to add some pictures with the words. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

The right lighting is key If you want an action shot you either need them in bright sunlight with a high shutter speed or in a dimly lit room (bright enough to be able to focus on the subject) and then use either an on-camera flash or off-camera flash from a distance it will freeze the ham in time like this -

When it comes to focusing on them that can be difficult you more or less have to learn to work with your camera and know at which distance it focusses best then aim to be that far away from the ham when you take the shots. Standing back and zooming in or getting as close as your focus will allow in macro mode (on most camera macro mode is the flower symbol) will give you the best chance of getting the shot in focus, make sure there is nothing in the way of the ham that could distract your cameras focus and then just take as many shots as you can. That way at least a few should be perfect

Here's my little guy from a day or two ago munching on some veggies and bread. It's a little blurry but I still think it was the best picture I've managed to get of him! I took 30 pics and only 3 weren't blurred beyond recognition.

yeah I try to use natural light or a white light whenever possible, and take quite a few at a time - if you have a multiple-shutter option, I'd put that on. unfortunately my camera is rubbish so I just use my iPhone (which, being the 4S, means it has more megapixels than my actual digital camera!?). honestly it is just luck. out of every 10 pictures, there MAY be one that I can use haha. that, or I time it to when they stop moving for about 1 second!
