Default Can I get a new cage or will she get stressed?

Okay, I NEED to get a new cage for Buttercup! I came 3 days ago and she had gotten out of her cage. And she just had had babies!! I found her in my dresser but I was worried about the babies. Then I found her the next day with tape all over her and she almost got out. Now I have it to where I dont think she can get out but im in a tight situation since she just had babies. Can I get a new cage? Because she learned how to get out and I dont know how to make her not get out!

Uch I feel like an awful hamster owner, why did I even use that cage in the first place? I thought she couldnt get out and now I cant get a new one cause she'll get out.

(btw its not like I just put tape over the holes)

I don't know whether it's advisable to change the cage or not but if it isn't could you maybe put the cage inside a plastic storage tub until the babies are older, then if she got out she couldn't get far?

How has she gotten out? Chewed holes in a plastic cage? Can they be covered with a metal bolt and large metal washers?
The best solution would be to make it so the babies couldn't get out too once they're mobile.

if she's still in with the babies you're best leaving her in that cage until she's separated from them as you'd have to move the pups aswell which she wouldn't like and could cull them all, how is it she got out? could you maybe get some flexible metal wire or something to wrap around her exit?

I think the putting it into a tub solution is good, or have you seen the correx playpen thread on the forum as something around her cage would be good so if she did get out she couldn'e go far.

EDIT: tub isnt a good word to use but it was just pointing out something that was said above is a good solution in my opinion.

There is supposed to be plastic stoppers over these holes so if you want to, you could connect cages or put tubes in but we lost them :/
I will try the container idea. I made it to where im 80/90% sure she cant get out but the babies probably could if they wiggled over. I didnt even think of that :0

Sorry, I'm not sure what kind of cage you have. We have a plastic digging box which Angel chewed three of the four corners (straight through the carpet and underlay to the floorboards). We just propped the tub up with off cuts of wood flooring which she won't be able to get through in a hurry. Probably is best to leave her where she is though so she doesn't stress and harm the babies and good luck!
