Ghost of Toast
Hey guys (:
I was going to upload some photos of wee Ghostie, but then my phone had to go for repair so I have probably lost them all now ): I especially wanted to show you these infamous "tufts", which get longer every time I look at her.
So, an update on her...I suppose progress?
Ghost seems to be less skittish after cage cleaning now. We have cleaned her cage a few times, she gets less frantic after each one. So, with her new confidence we decided to reinstall her second level and tubes. They have been in for a few days, she seems to have settled in well and, very thankfully, she hasn't retreated to nesting in the tubes. Probably 'cause she has grown since she last did that, and it might be a bit too small to sleep in now.
As for picking up, we still aren't there. Ghost knows that when she is up and we are near her cage, if she comes to the door she can get out. So of course, every time I open the gate she tries to clamber out. Therefore, I cannot put my hand in the cage to encourage her to climb on. She will climb onto my arms occasionally, but the majority of the time she simply prefers to climb straight into her ball for a run. If we offer her snacks whilst she is in the ball, she takes them from our arm and retreats inside to eat.
Ghost still jumps when she is stroked, even if I offer her my hand to sniff first. A few times now, though, I have managed to gently put my hand around her and lift her up, if only for a few seconds, and put her down (or she squirms out). No biting, and less terrified jumping. I give her a treat every time, so hopefully that reinforces that *cuddles* = *good times*.
She still does a freeze frame, especially if we are out of the house when she wakes up; when we come in and start making noises Ghost will still pretend she is not there. Silly bean.
OK, so that is Ghost so far. Teeny tiny baby steps with this little madam. She will probably be in her old age before she, if ever, will be picked up!!
