Robo dwarves are very hard to tame and some will never be. But don't give up.

True dont give up... My Robo's still aren't tame i've had them about 2 months now. I'm away on a sort of holiday just now, and according to my friend who's looking after my hamsters Loki (my really skittish Robo who runs as far away as possible from me when i speak) jumped into his hand when he was filling the food bowl.... So strange things can happen whether you expect them to or not

She has probably completely forgotten the fall by now One thing I am always reminded on here when feeling guilty about something that has happened to a ham is that Hamsters live in the moment, they don't think about what's happened or whats going to happen. The fall shouldn't make any difference to the taming at all

I have a LH male and to keep his skirt clean I do one very simple thing, he lives on wood based (non-clumping) cat litter as his substrate. His fur never gets tangled and so only needs brushing once a week or so and usually thats just for my own entertainment My Syrian has a very short skirt for a male too, around the same length as a females

As for the robos -

^ That is Kiku, one of my 4 current robos. I've had her since she was 3 weeks old (she is now 10 months old) and she is my tamest robo. My least tame passed away this January and I had her for 16 months, she would not come near me... so you can see it really depends on the robo

The younger you start handling them from the better. Also I recommend trying to hand feed them by slowly lowering and holding your hand in the cage for up to an hour if you can, with food on it. Then even if they don't come to your hand just leave the food behind and very slowly remove your hand from the cage. Eventually they will learn that you are not a threat - they may start by just moving a bit closer and sniffing your hand - and hopefully after a lot of perseverance they will start to eat from your hand.

This can take weeks or even months but is more than worth it. Once they start sitting on your hand to eat you can try lifting it very, very slowly a few centimetres off the bottom of the cage. Again you keep doing this until they get used to it, when they get used to the movement you lift your hand higher.. etc.. etc.. and you will eventually be able to hold them. However they will still be super fast so you have to have your witts about you! Do keep in mind that not all robos can be tamed, but with a lot of work most can be convinced not to run away whenever you come near the cage

Our first and second hamster both made dramatic dives in their first week with us all be it onto the mattress. Both turned into lovely little cuddle monsters I would say that it just takes patience and gentle small steps taken often. It may be that your hammy is a little shaken after the fall and needs to calm for a while afterwards but I would keep taking those slow steps towards taming.

As for brushing a LH female, I only need to brush my LH male twice a week and he does have a massive skirt but he is quite good at keeping it clean and the substrate he is on does not clump or tangle in his fur, we check him daily but its not often he requires a brush.
