This is a post about nothing in particular and a few musings at random. Is there a thread for this sort of thing? I think I've overlooked it if so...
Anyway, I've just ordered a 30lb box of EcoBedding (dustless paper bedding made of recycled paper and looks like brown paper crinkles). I normally go with 4.5lb bags of it and have gone with as much as a 10lb box before, which was quite large. This was a really great deal though, but I'm seriously wondering where in the world I'm going to store a 30lb box! I'll have to split it up for sure
Maxie and Isabel will go to a new vet next Saturday. I love my current vet, and feel so bad to "betray" him for another vet, but he doesn't see patients on weekends, which makes getting a ride from my OH more difficult. His office also charges a fair amount more per visit. Maxie's tummy's looking pretty much the same: rarefied fur and still an unhealthy looking scent gland
Izzie's eye is poorly since her Baytril treatment a while ago. There's no visible discharge, but the area around the eye looks darker, as the fur is a bit clumped, and you can see skin through it. Plus she squints a lot. I don't really know what it could be--it's not like Adzuki's eye was when antibiotic eye drops cleared it right up: she had milky white discharge that was very visible, which Izzie does not.
I've swapped 3 of my hamsters off shavings completely (two just in case). Maxie is entirely on paper bedding because I don't know what's going on with his fur. Ham is on paper because he's got a family history of skin issues and fur loss, so I don't want to risk it. And Isabel makes me wonder if her eye irritation's worsened by shavings--but I have no idea actually.
And also an "I'm so very stupid" announcement: I ruined exactly 24 OVO connectors a few days ago. Got chem cheap off Craigslist with some used tubes, and decided to boil them to disinfect... I figured I'd watch them and cool if they start doing anything funky. Well they looked perfect up until I took them out to find that they shrunk by about 2mm in diameter, which means they don't fit any of my new tubes :< Very very smart of me! Also, you can't boil any of the plastic parts of the OVO--I tried with one as a test, and it turned milky and severely distorted.
And finally, I saw a pure white robo in a local pet shop today, and my hands itched like crazy to take her home. But of course I did not! She's from the same place where I got my two headspot robos, and she's in a tank with another headspot robo. I see those there regularly, but this is the first pure white one I've noticed.
