got the fright of my life...
snowy was having her nightly run around in her ball while me and the hubby was having dinner tonight (it's so lovely, when i get home from work now she is already waiting by her cage door to come out )and it went very quiet. hubby went to find her only to call out 'come look at this'....
she had somehow got her ball open and was sitting on my bathroom matt (we live in a flat) how lucky was i, that my gorgeous girly hadn't darted somewhere. she calmly let me get her aswell, she didn't dash away *phew*
not letting her out of my sight now, little madam

Re: got the fright of my life...
Thank goodness you found Snowy alive and well. It could have got pretty bad as these little creatures love to explore and look around.
My hamster squeezed his body up and slid underneath the closet. Good thing I saw or else I would not know where to go looking for him.
When I went to go to look, he was sitting in the corner and looking at my spare purse as if wondering how to use it as a spare nest, LOL!

My Darla escaped recently. After a worry-filled night, I found her in the morning... in a bag of dirty substrate in a cold cupboard Hamsters do the darndest things

Re: got the fright of my life...
That happened with my Cheeto one night too. I actually had her in the hallway outside my room on the HamTrac while I was cleaning her cage. Luckily I'm obsessive-compulsive about checking on her, because she knocked the ball open too but she didn't get very far. I scooped her right up!

Re: got the fright of my life...
I have to admit I put a piece of tape on the outside of the door when she uses her ball now.
I had an incident of a small part of a Habitrail habitat being left open one night when I had Fluffy. She ended up on a 24ish hour excursion. I was devastated, thought for sure she was gone. Then my mom woke me up at like 6am the following day saying she swore she heard something in the computer room. I went in there, shut the door, turned off all the lights, sat down on the floor and listened intently for a few minutes. Sure enough, I heard a scratching coming from the closet. I turned the light on, opened the closet door, and there she was sitting in the floor grooming herself! I was SO happy to see her, and to see her unharmed. Little lady must have had quite an adventure!
So anyway, I refuse to risk another incident like that with Cheeto (or Roxy of she ends up liking the ball.)

Re: got the fright of my life...
I have never used a ball without taping the lid shut. Learned that lesson with my Grandad's Syrian years ago Luckily Pippin was very tame, and they didn't have any other pets, and he couldn't get out of the kitchen
