hi my ww pups are 3wks & 2days old should i now be thinkink about seperating the males now or wait till saturday when they will be 4wks i know that they can go to new homes from the 31st this month onwards thanks any more info will be much appreciated angela.x

Hi Angela, they sound delighful. I have a book on dwarf hamsters and in the reproduction pages, it states winter white babies (P.Sungorus) are not sexually mature until around one and a half to two months of age, so I imagine the babies do benefit from staying with their mum for a little longer than three/four weeks. I know it does with baby mice although male mice are sexually mature earlier than this.

It helps them to mature better and learn behaviours that they may miss out on if taken away from their mum too early on. There are breeders on here who will be able to correct me on this of course as I`m only stating what I have in front of me. How many wee ones do you have? Were they a purpose bred litter or accidental? I love winter whites. x

I would wait until they are 4 weeks so that they can have much time with mum and litter mates (especially if the males aren't going in with another adult). They really do learn so much from each other. WW's aren't usually in a rush to get breeding unlike syrians, even though they can be sexually mature after 4 weeks, some leave it till after 5 weeks but its best to be safe.

hi racinghamster we have five two light grey white, & two dark grey white, & one brown one i have put pics on here of them from last wk when they were 15days old.they were accidental, thanks for advice fluffymunchkins would they be ok to put in cage with their dad, i have read its not a good idea to put them with him as he won't recognise them as his pups & he could possiblie kill them
