OH came home from work and went to look at s/he and took the lid off the cage and put his hand in and was gently talking to the hamster s/he squealed for about a minute then went over and sat on OH's hand for about 30 seconds and then took a yoghurt drop very gently out of his hand and sat and ate it. He reckons it will tame up nicely.

OH obviously has the golden touch with hamsters!

I'm sure the eyes are black not red, don't know if this is significant. I thought honey, then I'm thinking Cinnamon, then I'm thinking I just don't know - how about gorgeous

Whatever it is its a real warm creamy gingery colour but those black eyes are foxing me. Actually s/he is the colour of a Basil Brush!

Hope to be at Highworth but don't think I will be fit for an early start so will probably be there about 11:30pm, do you think this will be okay?

Your OH probably has no fear, animals will know this and it settles them. Of course, they can also sense when you are afraid.
I don't think it matters what time you get to the show. When I went to see the Cardiff show I didn't get there until dinner time. Of course there were no hamsters left on the sales table but it doesn't sound as if there are many (if any) coming to Highworth. I'm picking up Beckham, but I booked him weeks ago and he's not strictly speaking a baby now, he's about 10 weeks.
Your hamster collection is growing rapidly by the sounds of it. Julie and I are hoping for Monday matings so the patter of tiny feet should be coming your way soon!

I got to Bath at midday and there were still about 10 hammies on the sales table, and I found it a brilliant time to get there, so I'm sure this will be fine!

Catja, I made my partner sit down and read your post at the start - and she was mortified, that such a poor little creature should be in such a state!

Needless to say, as I'm rescuing two hammies this weekend, it's gone a long way to showing the kind of good a caring heart can do

I'm not nearly in half as much trouble!

great! good for you Gus! i'm so pleased you are rescuing! i know it's just a drop in the ocean when we rescue one ham, but it really makes a difference to that drop and the more we can save, the better

Well done Gus, I don't think you will regret it, Bonaparte the new hamster we picked up yesterday is already settling in and the more I look at s/he the more I can't believe that A. Nobody wanted s/he and B. They were going to put s/he down!

She is already taking titbits from our hands and OH managed to pic her up for 30 seconds.

Catja that is great news you went and got him/her! I am sure the little one is grateful for you taking him/her into a loving home where it will receive some much needed TLC
