Re: New Girlie :o)
That must have been so tough Rach, I'm glad the little lady is going to experience the sort of home every hamster should have, but I know how tough the time right after a loved fluff has passed is, especially if it was one of those truly special little guys that Souffle so beautifully calls a twin soul hamster xx

Re: New Girlie :o)
I saw the ladies post on FB Rach and thought it was a little ill timed, but knew you couldn't let her go unwanted and would take her one way or another. You would never be replacing Huxley - he was one of a kind - but he will be pleased I'm sure that John has taken on this lady in need

Re: New Girlie :o)
Yes it was very ill timed Sharon & after I said yes I was in floods of tears as I know I didn't want another hamster. But it just goes to show how some see them as disposable pets & by asking me when I had just lost Huxley, shows that they don't realize that those of us who do care for our hammies deeply, feel as sad as anyone who loses a dog cat etc....

Re: New Girlie :o)
Yes it was the way she said 'you can have E's hamster if you want' as if to say oh never mind here's another. Unfortunately some people will never see hammies for the delightful animals that they are. Hope you are feeling a little better. Try to get some sleep tonight xx

Re: New Girlie :o)
So just been to my local Pet Shop for supplies & burst into tears when telling Dave that Huxley had gone. He had a new litter of WW's in & let me have a cuddle. Aw they were so sweet. Great therapy.
He was surprised I didn't want one. I wasn't going to go down, but thought I'd have to face it sooner or later.
Anyway I am, on this thread as we need a name for the little girlie we rescued. After a talking it over with John last night he wants me to have her. I felt so guilty last night, as I know there is no way I'm ready for a new ham, but it's not her fault her owners didn't want her anymore. She is really cute. She deserves to be loved & well cared for.
Any suggestions? As always it has to be a H.

Re: New Girlie :o)
I'm sorry about the loss of Huxley
But I'm glad that even though you're upset right now that you are able to offer the new girlie a loving home, she sounds like she needs it.
How about 'Hope' for her name.

Re: New Girlie :o)
I feel exactly the same Rach having lost my gorgeous little chinese hamster Prinny a few weeks ago and non-hamster people wouldn`t understand the grief of losing something you love that is taken away too soon and so unfairly. I often beat myself up and keep telling myself to pull myself together because I know these things happen sooner or later, but losing one that is almost human is hard to accept. I form such a close bond with my small pets they are more like children to me and I think many of us feel the same way. But that`s the difference between people like us who treat our hamsters better than some children are and those who just see them as throw away accessories.
I hope to see your little female soon as she sounds adorable. I would love to find a winter white one day when the time is right. Huxley would want you to move on and as one door gently closes, another little ray of sunshine needs your love. x

Re: New Girlie :o)
I really think its an amazing thing you are doing for this little girl who obviously needs a loving home so much...
as for names..... Heidi, Hali, Hanna, Harley/Harlie (Quinn)
Sorry they're the only H's i can think of off the top of my head
