Default Pets at Home adoption centre?

I've seen a couple of references to this - but I've never heard of it

I thought I might have done, having spent enough time in there - but can anyone fill me in?

In pets at home there is sort of rows of regular tanks with single animals in. Apparently, (this is what the store manger told me) they are the 'leftovers' of an odd numbered litter or animals which have been taken back to the store due to fighting e.t.c.
But, i have heard that they are in fact old hamster which havent sold in say 4 months.
Hope I helped
Beccy

i've never seen a syrian in there, only robos and chinese which are listed as unwanted litters or have been fighting. the chinese are clearly babies. there's always rabbits. i dunno if those are just ones from the store that didn't sell.

I had no idea - I've never seen this!

Are they selling these animals then, or just looking to rehome them?

Our P@H doesn't have one either Gus. Just the odd rabbit separated from the others and reduced.

That all makes it sound like marked-down food in Asda, or something

That's me rolling my eyes at that thought, not you Basia! Sorry!

I suppose it's quite a reasonable idea, all told.

I know I'm a bit cynical but I'm not a huge fan of the P@H Adoption Centres - to me it just seems like a convenient way for them to deal with their "mistakes".

If staff in ALL their stores knew how to sex their animals correctly then unsuspecting customers wouldn't take home mixed pairs when they thought they were buying single sex pairs - there would then be no need for people to return unplanned litters for rehoming.

If their staff gave correct advice about so called "social" species and their housing/equipment needs then they'd get far less "fighting" animals returned. A Rody with a single wheel and a food bowl seems to be their standard recommendation for dwarf pairs - no wonder they fight when they hit maturity. And Chinese are STILL advertised in our P@H as "social".

I just think it's a shame they can't get these basics right, then the poor animals wouldn't be up for rehoming anyway - but, as I said, I'm an old cynic

EEK! How can I tell the folks that the p@h adoption's are a bad idea? My mum is set on the only way on getting a robo is by adoption! Personally, I'm a bit scared as I dont want anything to be wrong with it! Could there be something wrong with them? If so, how can I tell her its a bit 'iffy'?
Thanks
Beccy

I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with the animals there - for them their only chance is for someone like you to adopt them. I just wish there was no need for the adoption centres in the first place if you know what I mean.
