My local P@H aoption centre is always full of hamtser. THey are like the only thing in there! I always feel really sorry for them. They also have the emotive story attached to their cages, which just makes me want them even more, but i suppose thats what its there for!

i try and stay away from any animal cages at pet stores these days just so I don’t come away with a ham or two

i do agree the advice on Chinese needs to be changed they should say that although they can be social there is high risk of fighting particularly with females.

why cant they let the rspca deal with rehomeing these poor animals at least the new homes would be vetted then so the same mistake would not happen again

as for unwanted litters i would never take on back to p@h I would rehome them myself as I would fear who they ended up with and the conditions the would have to endure at the store. And the same thing might happen again knowing p@h.

Some are animals from the stroe that havent sold, some are animals that are returned, they will always take them back. They do take in animals that they have not sold too, i think its quite a new thing for P@H and has some teething probs. There are always buns, guinea pigs, hammys and rats in there, quite sad really

ive seen three syrians (two at the same time) and have bought two of them lol the last one being saturday. was weird actually on saturday something just said to me "go to pah" so i did and there she was. the hugest grey banded ever lol. she was bitey apparently but ive held her many times and shes soft as a brush. shes overweight too so i think shes just been forgotten about , she was brought in to the store by her owners.
the first was my first adult hamster and she was a mink called mocha and is what gave me the bug so to speak lol now on fourteen
also recused a pair of gerbils, dwarf hamsters and a chinese hamster too. prefer rescuing and plus its not putting money in pahs pocket

All though not a hamster, I did adopt a rat from P&H last autumn. She was full grown and had been returned by previous owners because she had started fighting with her cagemates. I was in touch with P&H about taking the rat before it had actually been returned so I was able to follow its story as it happened, and 24 hrs after it had been taken in by them it was ready for collection.

P&H made no money out of the adoption. I did make a donation to an animal charity though.

I have seen unsellable animals go up for adoption, but behaviour problems are usually cited. I don't think the scheme is so bad, as long as the shop makes no money from it and the animals have a better outlook.

I was completely unchecked though when I collected my rat (who is a darling).

i adopted a robo out of there that had cuts on him. there's always robos and chinese in mine. today there was a winter white (looking) that said he'd been returned because he was lively and the owner couldn't handle him. how sad. they probably didn't even try

A 'lively' WW that couldn't be handled?

Who are they kidding?

Some people just make me sick

I work with a man whose kid got bored of his dwarf - i was off work last week but he had already taken it into a local P@H adoption centre with a sack full of lies about why they "can't keep it" heh. If I had known I would have taken it off him and rehomed it myself
