Should I get another hamster?
Hello everyone,
You may remember me from when I had my hamster, Bobby who sadly past away before christmas. I just wanted your opinion on when is the best time to get another hamster or should I not bother. I love animals and it certainly gives me a lot of responsibility (if you know me in real life, you'd find that is the one thing I am terrible at!)
Thanks,
Sam

Re: Should I get another hamster?
If you have the time, money and space then it's completely up to you. No one here can tell you the how long after loosing a pet you should get another one as it's your feelings/readiness not ours
I have to say though, you seem unsure - if you're unsure I would wait as that to me seems like a sign that you aren't ready just yet.

Re: Should I get another hamster?
I think if you want another ham then you should get one whenever you feel ready. I'm sure you loved Bobby and gave him a great home, so when/if you feel ready I'd start looking into cages, toys, local hamsters e.t.c and just get one when it seemed right if that makes sense?
Sometimes its not right for a year, other times the deceased ham prods another your way within a week. Its all down to the individual really.

Re: Should I get another hamster?
Thanks and I do feel ready and have plenty of money and time on my hands. I made this mostly to see whether it would be rushed if it was a couple months after.
Quick question: If you had a hamster die on you and you got another one, how long did you wait until you got that other one?
Thanks.

Re: Should I get another hamster?
Er... Only happened when I was a kid and I can't remember
I have seen someone on this forum get another in less than a week and I truly believe she made the right call because she was ready and the ham was right for her. It wasn't planned but it worked. So I really don't think you're rushing at all if you believe you're ready

If you feel ready then you're not rushing at all. You aren't replacing Bobby and getting another hammy won't be disrespectful or anything like that to his memory.

Re: Should I get another hamster?
I adopt most of my hamsters and when one passes I usually get another about a week later?
It's not to replace them at all it's just hamsters have such short lifespans so every second longer they spend in a rescue is wasted time.

Re: Should I get another hamster?
I wouldn't think of it as a time limit. You' ll when you see him or her. When I had Dusty I'd had his cage set up for a couple of months. I went out one day and saw him. I was in love and bought him home.
