Yeah... I'm er... less polite and would probably feel obligated to be more honest there. I'd probably try and work out the most diplomatic way of saying that they didn't look after them lol
I'd probably go more for "I'm sorry but I'm being quite picky about the homes for these little guys, and I'm not sure your cat would be safe around them, plus I'd want them to have large cages, lots of time out e.t.c and I'm not sure your spare time could accomodate both a hamster and the guinea pigs"
(Would want to say more but thats as close as I can get while attempting to keep some tact lol)

Ok, so when I first moved in here, I helped her when she was cleaning out her gp cage. There were MAGGOTS in the bottom of it. I made sure she knew how disgusting that was, said I'd check them for open wounds to make sure the wounds weren't infested, and that I would give them a bath. She checked for wounds, but that was about it. Over the first month of me being here, I cleaned the cage twice for her when it got so bad I couldn't stand thinking of them on it anymore and she was just like "oh, yeah, thanks". I also would feed them when she didn't come home that night because I didn't want them to be without. Again "oh, yeah, thanks". I bought her a bag of gp food when she couldn't afford it, shared some of my hay bale with her, and bought some Oxbow treats. "Oh, yeah, thanks." When she yells at her gps because they want food/water and are squealing I will holler from the other room "if you feed and water them, they'll shut up". She gets up and slams the door, and I can hear her sometimes gives them food then (if she has any), but no water. I'm going to take pictures of the cage condition and when we move this weekend, I'll get her forwarding address. Then I'll call the authorities. I don't want to do it now because I'm afraid she'll retaliate against my animals. I thought about going ahead and calling them to see what they suggest.

P.s. I've even told her the bedding being wet is going to cause mold spores, which are not only bad for the pigs, but are bad for her lungs as well... As in, people have died. "Whatever".

Oh, also I told her that the babies wouldn't be ready until Tuesday after next (which they won't) and when/if she calls to get one, I'm going to tell her straight out exactly why she's not getting one. Again, she won't be able to retaliate against my pets. Otherwise I'd say more now.

That all sounds sensible. To be honest, i think I'd have said something by now, but that's not really a good thing Good luck getting sorted.

How could any pet owner let it get to the stage of having maggots in a cage? I just don't understand why you'd want more pets when you can't even/won't even look after the ones you already have.

People make me angry :z

I'm so lucky. My son's partner has hamsters and we have an agreement that if for some reason one of us can't look after our hammies the other does. Why doesn't she get them re-homed if she can't or won't look after them.

I bet its very hard for them not to have said something by now and have lived with people of that nature before and can assure you it is. they are terrified that someone who cares so very little for their own pets woul be psycho enough to do something horrible to theirs (and probably would). It cost us hundred of extra dollars to get out of that situation and we had to move everything we owned into storage for 2 months to do it without worrying about pay back. At least they will do something once their animals are safe and not everyone would. I really want to steal those poor piggies tho. hopefully they will be safe soon.
