Default New home :)

Fred loves his new home, the amazing, Habitrail Ovo, it provides him with all the fun he needs he hasn't stopped running around since he's got in there it has a brilliant security system and ventilation is not a problem, it was 35pound down from 50 - 70 pounds. Which I think I got a bargain ;D.

I thought you were considering a bin cage or the zoozone? The ovo doesn't tend to provide enough running space for hams, but perhaps you could connect it to a bin cage?

I think It's fine for him, ;D, Zoozone is a guinea pig cage and my hamster doesn't like to much space he likes going under things. But in a few weeks I'm going to add a new section of habitrail ;D

Yes but you could fill a lot of toys in a bin cage, which he would probably love! lots of hidey holes!

You've made quite a few threads about cages, maybe it would be best to continue in just one thread?

can i just say 1 thing.
the company who made zoo zone think it is OK to use a guinea pig cage but its not! never! ever! it is way way way too small for a guinea pig or a rabbit/ bunny

A breeder said to me guinea pig cages aren't ideal for hamsters like my syrian he said maybe for dwarfs and robos.

That's odd. Did he give any reason?
As long as the bars are meshed, the zoozone is perfectly suitable.

Er... Modular cages are fine, but they really are only ok for a hamster when attatched to a bin and/or bigger cage extension.

I'd also be interested to hear the reasoning the breeder gave, and am sorry to say this but our syrian has a rotastak/bin/hamster-heaven cage at the moment and the difference it made to add the bin was surprising. She's been much happier since, and she loves her hamster heaven too.
Scamp doesn't like open spaces either, but she loves the hamster heaven, we filled it with lots of toys and a hammock and stuff and she's really pleased with it - just won't use it with us awake very often because she feels safer using it when its dark for some reason, she also adores her bin and actually uses that when we're awake too lol

It really does make a huge difference to the hamster, and I know I thought "Oh Scamp will be fine" but we needed a bigger cage for a big wheel anyway and the bin was made for that. We figured at worst she just used it for the wheel and have found she loves it.
On that note - I don't think habitrail alone can fit an 8" wheel? I know rotastak just about holds the 7.5(ish) inch savic rolly but I don't think the habitrail can even do that?

I've attatched a pic of Scamp's current cage for you to see. I'd never say anyone needs to do anything on this scale (I think Scamp's is the biggest cage on the site by now lol), but modular stuff does need to be attatched to a bigger cage too, like either our bin or something like the hamster heaven (or of that size).

He said you can not hang your toys and I would like to hang them up, I explained the mesh but he still insisted leave hamsters for hamster cages thats why there specially built for them, He then pointed out Habitrail Ovo was a great cage for a syrian and the only problem i I will have us putting it together, but I took it home built so it was perfectly fine, another issue was that the water bottle place was to high up and meant for guinea pigs he also agreed with me that it was to small for guinea pigs, But he said that Fred my 7month old syrian would have a lot more fun in the Habitrail Ovo.
