Default Long haired dwarf hamster??? Adoption ...

So a girl I went to school with put an add up on facebook advertising for a new loving home for her hamster. I naturally enquired as I have a cage sat there empty and I asked what breed and age the hamster was, and the reply was "long haired dwarf" and he is 8 months old and very placid so naturally I have agreed to rehome him. Do any of you guys have any idea which species I am actually going to be getting from her next week?

The reason for the rehoming is genuine, her kids are now old enough to start fiddling and be aware of their surroundings and they are scared of the hamster and its upsetting them , the cat also wants to kill the poor hammy.

Should I keep the new hamster in a room separate from the other animals just in case he is sick or has mites? The syrians cage is about 4 metres away from the dwarfs cage and the guinea pigs live about 4 metres away from the dwarf cage (3 corners of the room!) Or is the big distance between cages enough? It is quite easy for me to put the dwarf cage downstairs well away from the rest of the pets and keep it there for a while

Also I didnt know what section to put this under so I thought general was the best bet!

I wouldn't worry to much about how far apart their cages are. As long as there's no direct contact it should be okay.

You can get longhaired dwarfs but they're quite rare. They tend to be Campbells or Hybrids so a Russian. You're probably best ordering some of Silver's Mix 1 for Rat Rations as it's specifically for Diabetes Prone species. Congrats on the rehoming!

So Toby is all settled in his new cage

He came with an old cage, some food, bedding, a little house, wheel, ball etc etc but I moved him into a new cage and changed him from fluff wool bedding to parchment.

His old cage on top, his new cage which is only a mickey max (with correx on the wire floor) but its 2x the floor of his old one

Here he is

What breed is he? I was expecting something tiny when I found out I was getting a dwarf but this boy is only a little smaller than my ~14 week old syrian. He climbs up the wire bars and is very tame

His cage will be getting a bigger wheel as I have seen him in this one and its small, a 6.5 inch silent spinner will easily fit the cage
